LIHU‘E — Lions Club members from the different clubs on the island will be collecting used eyeglasses and hearing aids on Saturday as part of the Hawai‘i District’s Used Eyeglass and Hearing Aid collection.
Garbed in their yellow Lions vests, the members will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to greet and accept the donations from contributors.
Because the worldwide collection involves all of the island’s Lions Club, members will be available at Kong Lung Center in Kilauea, Big Save in Kapa‘a, Walmart in Lihu‘e, Kukui Grove Center between Long’s Drugs and Jamba Juice, and Big Save in ‘Ele‘ele Shopping Center.
“This in-person collections takes place just once a year, usually in January with coordination with the entire Hawai‘i District 50 of Lions Clubs,” said Lion Helena Cooney. “This is an ongoing Lions worldwide project, and the donations will go to third world countries where the network of doctors and technicians are all in place.”
For those who miss the in-person collection, there are collection boxes in places of business across the island throughout the year, Cooney said.
