Elizabeth ‘Lisa’ Nui Garma Carvalho
Elizabeth “Lisa” Nui Garma Carvalho, of Kapa‘a, passed away on Nov. 12, 2023, at Wilcox Medical Center at the age of 77. She was born on Feb. 3, 1946, in Lihu‘e. She was a retired seamstress and cashier at Wailua Country Store.
She was preceded in death by father Nomeriano Carlos, mother Nora Dias and sister Dorothy Yatsuoka.
She is survived by husband Gilbert C. Carvalho, son Norbert “Keone” (Cheryl) Garma of Lihu‘e, daughters Noralyn (Tamio) Hasegawa of Kapa‘a, Shanlee (James) Jimenez of Lihu‘e, grandchildren Tamalyn Hasegawa, Tyren Hasegawa, Torrie Hasegawa, Tyrus (Cori) Hasegawa, Ashlee (Kiah) Imai, Jamilee (Wayne) Jimenez, Krystian (Mikki) Garma, Caylee Garma, great-grandchildren Dayden Paahao, Saydee Paahao, Kian Imai, brothers Norman (Lourdes) Carlos of Kapa‘a, Sal (Isabella) Talha of Carson, California, William (Radrik) Carlos of Lihu‘e, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Please join the family to a celebration of life luncheon honoring the beautiful life of our beloved wife, mom, grandma and tutu at Kaua‘i Veterans Center in Lihu‘e on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, at 10 a.m. The family requests casual attire.

Marie Patsy Lopes
Marie Patsy Lopes, of Hanama‘ulu, passed away peacefully at her home on Dec. 2, 2023, at the age of 92. Born on April 27, 1931, she was a diligent woman who worked in the pineapple and sugarcane fields, provided care for young children, and was a self-employed janitor.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents John Sa and Emelia Garcia Sa, husband Manuel Lopes, daughter Bibiana Lopes, brother Vincent Sa, sister Alice Arruda, great-grandson Chavis Cortez-Duclayan and hanai brother Frank G. Perreira.
She is survived by children Dorine (Junior) Pegeder, Adele (Roy) Duclayan, Derek (Holly) Lopes, Eric Lopes, as well as sister-in-law Helen “Honey” Sa, ten grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Jan. 6, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Visitation with family begins at 8:30 a.m. and Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. by Father Augustine “Gus” Utthupu. Inurnment shall follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Kapaia.
Arrangements were coordinated by Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. A special thank you to the compassionate team at Kaua‘i Hospice.
Fred J. Bermudez
Fred J. Bermudez, of Lihu‘e, passed away on Dec. 13, 2023, in Lihu‘e at the age of 74. He was born on Nov. 8, 1949, in the Philippines. He was a retired building maintenance worker at Kaua‘i Resorts.
He was preceded in death by daughter Czarina Bermudez Ibana, parents Marcelina and Ruben Bermudez and brother Danilo Bermudez.
He is survived by his longtime partner Corazon Martinez, son Justin Bermudez of Hanapepe, daughters Grace Bermudez (Avelino Sevidal Jr.) of Honolulu, Karla Bermudez of Honolulu, grandchildren Daxton Gage Bermudez, Ayva Rae B. Sevidal, Alina Rose B. Sevidal, brother Roy Bermudez (Nita) of Lawa‘i, sisters Elizabeth Bermudez of Carson, California, Emilia Navarro (Antonio Navarro) of Hanapepe, Maria Vega of Carson, California, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service is Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo. Visitation is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass at 10 a.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

William ‘Willy’ Kwan Lup Ng Sr.
William “Willy” Kwan Lup Ng Sr., of Hanama‘ulu, passed away on Nov. 16, 2023, at the age of 95. He was born on May 5, 1928. He was a retired truck driver for Sears, Roebuck and Company.
He was preceded in death by wife Rosaline Ng, sisters Tina Tomacder, Dorothy Zane, brother Daso Perlas and granddaughter Lani Lynn Barretto.
He is survived by daughters Jocelyn Ng, Elizabeth “Liz” (Frank) Barretto Jr., son William Ng Jr., four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m., service at 10:45 a.m., and burial will follow at Lihu‘e Cemetery at 12:30 p.m.
The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.

Steven Mitsuo Saiki
Steven Mitsuo Saiki, of ‘Ele‘ele, passed away on Dec. 12, 2023, at home at the age of 79. He was born on Jan. 9, 1944, in ‘Ele‘ele. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a retired teacher of Waimea High School.
He was preceded in death by daughter Renee Aiko Saiki and parents Nobuo and Toyoko Saiki.
He is survived by wife Elaine Saiki, son Ryan Saiki of ‘Ele‘ele, daughter Lani Saiki-Woods (Matthew) of Lihu‘e, grandchildren Riley Saiki, Maya Saiki, Cayden Woods, brothers Gerald Saiki (Pam) of O‘ahu, Russell Saiki (Dale) of O‘ahu, Bert (Lita) Saiki of ‘Ele‘ele, sister Gayle Cuizon of Oma‘o, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A public visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, at the West Kaua‘i Hongwanji Mission in Hanapepe from 9 to 10 a.m. A private service for the family only will follow at 10 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and requests no flowers or koden (monetary gifts).

Georgia E. Kakuda
Georgia E. Kakuda, 79, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunty, and loyal friend passed away on July 22, 2023, in Spokane, Washington. She was born on May 12, 1944, on Kaua‘i.
She was preceded in death by her parents Sadao and Masayo Kakuda, her sister and brother-in-law June and Jim Nakagawa.
She is survived by her son Blaine (Chantel) Kakuda, grandsons Dylan and Caleb Kakuda and sister Rae (Ryan) Nishikawa.
A private celebration of life was held.
Genevieve Delanoza
Genevieve Delanoza passed away on Friday, Dec. 22, 2023, in Waimea, Kaua‘i, at the age of 89 years old. She was born on Jan. 7, 1934, in Aiea, Hawai‘i. She was a custodian for the State of Hawai‘i.
She was preceded in death by husband Bicente Delanoza and son Rodney Delanoza.
She is survived by sons Alan Delanoza of Los Angeles, California, Derek Delanoza of Kekaha, Chad (Mary) Delanoza of Kekaha, daughter Gendolyn “Gwen” Delanoza of Kekaha, grandchildren Alicaia Vea, Alison Vea, Ashlee Vea, Dalen Delanoza, Noah Delanoza, Chaslee Abat Delanoza, great-grandchildren Kalen Vea-Games, Kalee Vea-Games, Brett Vea-Santiago, Anson Lazaro, Alia Lazaro, Cailey Vea, Caiya Abat, great-great-grandchild Kalawaia Games-Galas, brothers Ray Sam Fong of Kapa‘a, Bert Sam Fong of Kihei, Maui, sisters Alma Silva of California, Shirly Sam Fong of Kekaha, Merna Tuzon of Oma‘o, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kekaha Ward. Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m., with a funeral service to begin at 11 a.m. The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Editha Caletena-Galamay, 79, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on Aug. 8, 2023, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born on May 24, 1944, in Nueva Ecija, Cuyapo, Philippines. She was a hotel room attendant and hair stylist.
She was preceded in death by parents Francisco and Flordeliza Umipig, brother Manuel Umipig and husband Celestino “Bitong” Samiano Caletena.
She is survived by husband Leo Flores Galamay, daughter Eliza “Lisa” Kobayashi, stepdaughter Jeannet Samiano Palacpac, grandchildren Jaycie Kobayashi, Sean Kobayashi, Kody Kobayashi and Sienna Caletena-Buehler.
A service is Friday, Jan. 13, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lihu‘e. Visitation is from 8 to 9:30 a.m., service at 10 a.m., and burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery. The family requests casual attire.
Carol Edith Duarte
Carol Edith Duarte, of Kapa‘a, passed away at home on Oct. 31, 2023, at the age of 79. Born on April 30, 1944, on O‘ahu, she was a retired retail sales manager.
She was preceded in death by parents Beatrice and Emil Prigge, Sr. of Kapa‘a.
She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Jacintho J. “Junie” Duarte, Jr., son Leslie Duarte, daughter Lisa Taniguchi, grandson Christian Taniguchi of Kapa‘a, sisters Betty Lou Severson, Patricia Ann Ichida, brother Dr. Emil Prigge, Jr. of O‘ahu, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Daniel Wilbur Contrades Sr.
Daniel Wilbur Contrades Sr., 90, of Nanakuli, passed away peacefully on Nov. 17, 2023 at the Queen’s Medical Center – West O‘ahu. He was born on Aug. 30, 1933 in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i and retired from Ameron HC&D where he worked as a ready mix driver on O‘ahu.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emmeleen “Chic” Haunani Keyes Contrades, great-grand daughter Chloe Kaleiu‘iohaunani Kahaunaele Marquez, son-in-law Israel Padilla, sister Myrtle (Frank) Napoleon, brothers Peter (Anita) Contrades, Ervin (Mercy) Contrades Sr., and Waldemar Contrades Sr.
He is survived by his son Daniel “Kaniela” W. Contrades Jr., daughters Rainnette (Glenn) Nagasako, Ginger Contrades, Danielle Contrades-Padilla, Lorna “La” Contrades, Emmeleen Contrades-Eiser, Sheila (Guy) Dickinson, brothers Joseph (Betty Jane) Contrades, Lester (Richard) Contrades, sisters Imogene Richards, Alicia (Tony) Fernandez, sister-in-law Patsy Contrades, 24 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and two great-great- grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024, at the Lydgate Park (big) Pavilion. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Services to follow. Casual attire is suggested.
Clayton Hung Tuck Yoshiwo Sui
Clayton Hung Tuck Yoshiwo Sui, of Lihu‘e, passed away on Dec. 19, 2023, at the age of 63. He was born in Honolulu on May 6, 1960, and raised there, never expecting to live on Kaua‘i, an island he grew to love. Clayton served as a chaplain for 26 years at Kaua‘i Community Correctional Center.
He was preceded in passing by his parents Thomas and Edna Sui and his siblings Leroy Sui and Glenice Yoneda.
Clayton is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Michelle Sui, his devoted children Zachary Sui, Rachel (Joshua) Sui, brother Colburn (Chong Ha) Sui and sister Valvia (Bill) McCormack.
Clayton put his heart and soul into his ministry at KCCC. He was a wise, thoughtful, and dedicated servant of Christ. He succeeded in turning around for the good the lives of many inmates.
Clayton released prisoners from the darkness, and in serving the least and the outcast at KCCC did it all for Jesus [Isaiah 61:1-3, Matthew 25:40]. At the front of his Bible Clayton placed Hebrews 13:3 [Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison]. Clayton and Shelly viewed all they ministered to as their own children.
Clayton fed his blue-ribbon chili to multitudes across Kaua‘i and around the world.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, at Kalaheo Missionary Church, 4480 Hokua Road, Kalaheo, Hawai‘i. The family requests that all attending wear Dallas Cowboys gray and blue colors.
