Welcome to 2024!
Steve Beckinoff said the Martin Luther King Day (yes, it’s on the calendar for Jan. 15) event takes place on Sunday from 3 p.m. at the Center for Spiritual Living Kaua‘i, where the interfaith gathering will also honor African American women whose work involved advancing peace and freedom.
Kudos, Kennedy Braun (didn’t she play for the Voyagers baseball team last year?) of Island School, who made the starting five of the Voyager junior varsity boys basketball team where she was a formidable defensive force. The Voyagers don’t have a girls basketball team, and this provides a nice option for Kennedy — go, girl!
The girls basketball game that was called off on Friday has been rescheduled to play Wednesday starting at 5:30 p.m., when the Menehune visit the Red Raiders at the new Kaua‘i High School gymnasium.
Kudos to George Evanoff’s family, including Anika, Jannik, Alina, Nicklaus and Hendrik (it’s almost like watching ‘The Sound of Music’ family, live!) on performing entertainment for the residents of the Regency at Puakea and their New Year’s Eve gathering … nice to see Ada Koene, Ora Tashiro and all those other people who live there.
And, Happy Retirement to Waimea High School Athletic Director Jon Kobayashi and Kaua‘i RSVP Director Mary Pigao, who made a special stop at 7-11 on New Year’s Day to let me know that her last day was on Sunday … at least we know we have Coach Dean Pigao on the football field.
