Mary and Joe are seniors living off a fixed income. Mary takes care of Joe, who is bedridden. The couple’s children live off island and haven’t been able to visit for a couple of years. This holiday it would be special to provide Mary and Joe an iPad for them to Zoom or Facetime with their loved ones.

Waimea wahine split Kapa‘a trip

KAPA‘A — Waimea High School girls basketball junior varsity took its match 50-13 over the Kapa‘a, but dropped the varsity contest 60-38 in Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation games played at Bernice Hundley Gym.

CHRISTMAS FUND: Father hoping for clothes, toys for toddler

Kaipo is the father of a beautiful 2-year-old girl. Due to his struggle with substance use, he was incarcerated and his daughter was placed in temporary foster care. Since being released several months ago, Kaipo has dedicated his life to reuniting with his daughter. He attends all of his classes and voluntary meetings, while taking the bus.

‘Kekaha Kalikimaka’ — a celebration of the season

KEKAHA — Aloha ambassador Dawn O’Brien, of the Big Island, described the Friday event as “Kekaha Kalikimaka” when hundreds of people of all ages gathered at Kekaha Neighborhood Center for a celebration of the season.

Gov. Green offers first budget after wildfires on Maui

HONOLULU — Hawai‘i Gov. Josh Green on Monday said he was requesting $425 million from lawmakers during the next fiscal year to help Maui recover from August’s wildfires, and millions more to reduce the risk of wildfires statewide.
