Wildfire in Central O‘ahu moves away from towns

HONOLULU — A wildfire that has burned forestlands in a remote mountainous area of Central Oahu has moved eastward and away from population centers, Hawaii authorities said Thursday, as firefighters continued to battle the blaze.

Helicopters drop water on O‘ahu wildfire for 2nd day

HONOLULU — A wildfire in Hawai‘i’s Central O‘ahu has grown to cover more than a square mile in a remote mountainous area and has burned native koa and ohia trees, officials said Tuesday. No structures or homes were threatened and no evacuations were ordered.

Bodycam video shows police saving residents from Maui wildfire

HONOLULU — An officer sprinted from house to house in the historic town of Lahaina, Hawaii, alerting people to the approaching inferno. Another coughed and swore as he drove through thick smoke past burning buildings with people he rescued crammed in the back seat. With no ambulance available, one officer offered to bring a severely burned man to a hospital.

Surfrider report finds bacteria present in Kaua‘i waters
