LIHU‘E — Now that Christmas has come and gone, the county announced that Christmas trees are accepted for recycling daily, except on holidays, at the green waste drop-off areas at refuse transfer stations from 7:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Trees are also accepted at the Kekaha Landfill from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Kaua‘i Nursery and Landscaping, known as KNL for short, has set up a truck in the KNL driveway where drop-off trees can be loaded onto, seven days a week from Dec. 26 through Dec. 31.
The county reminds people wishing to recycle Christmas trees that all trees, when brought to any of the recycling locations, must be bare and free of flocking, tinsel and ornaments, including strings of lights.
The county’s green waste sites are closed during inclement weather. For individuals wishing to know whether the site convenient to them is open, visit www.kauai.gov/SolidWaste, or call 808-241-4841.
