Representatives of Kaua‘i’s credit unions, including Gather Federal Credit Union, Garden Island FCU, Kaua‘i FCU, Kaua‘i Teachers FCU and McBryde FCU celebrated the presentation of $12,766 to Kelvin Moniz of the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank, its staff and board members. The total represents the annual food drive hosted by Kaua‘i’s credit unions.

Chef Steven Nakata of the Kaua‘i Community College Culinary Arts department works with students Noah Denbeau and Mason Yoshimori in grilling Kaua‘i Shrimp for the Kaua‘i Shrimp Lettuce Wraps at the Pau Hana Market at Kukui Grove. The market will be closed for Christmas, but will re-open on New Year’s Day starting at 3 p.m.

Kaua‘i Community College Culinary Arts students Victoria Mendoza, Tory Refamonte, Mia Lorenzo, Dianne Martin, Mason Yoshimori, and Noah Denbeau wait for the griddle to warm up on Monday at the Pau Hana Market before starting their Maluhia Cattle Company Beef Smash Burger Salad. These students, along with Bronson Oliver, Chefs Mark Oyama and Steven Nakata are the same crew that prepare, pack, and ship between 500 to 1,000 pounds of meals to Maui for relief from the recent wildfires.

Lorena Silva of Opu Road Farm puts the finishing touches to the kadomatsu New Year’s display that were available during the Pau Hana Market on Monday at the Kukui Grove Center. The kadomatsu, and kadomatsu-inspired designs were sold out on the final Pau Hana Market for 2023. The market re-opens on New Year’s Day from 3 p.m. at the Kukui Grove Center.
