PO‘IPU — When the Hawai‘i Fire Chiefs Association (HFCA) met for its 44th annual Training &Business Meeting at the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort and Spa from Nov. 15 through 19, the body set up accommodations where the meeting attendees could contribute to several local nonprofits.
PO‘IPU — When the Hawai‘i Fire Chiefs Association (HFCA) met for its 44th annual Training &Business Meeting at the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort and Spa from Nov. 15 through 19, the body set up accommodations where the meeting attendees could contribute to several local nonprofits.
“Our theme this year is ‘Kulia I Ka Nu‘u’ meaning ‘Strive for the Summit. “Hawai‘i’s fire service strives to always be the best we can be for the communities we serve each and every day,” said HFCA President Tommy Perkins.
“As we gather together, our hearts and prayers go out to our brothers and sisters in public safety, residents, and those who fell victim to the catastrophic fires on the island of Maui. The HFCA has established a fund to help the public safety members who gave it their all while battling the fires knowing they were also losing everything at the same time. We will begin with mental health exams and necessary basic needs. Thank you for your generosity.”
Kaua‘i Fire Department Chief Michael Gibson said he was hopeful the conference would serve as a source of inspiration, knowledge and meaningful connections for everyone.
Following the conference, the visiting speakers have left, and guest dignitaries and other fire service dignitaries have gone, leaving Gibson to allocate the results of the meeting attendees’ generosity.
Capt. Rod Green of the Toys for Tots received $1,000 and several bagfuls of merchandise for this year’s campaign.
Kelvin Moniz, the executive director for the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank, also was the recipient of $1,000 and several box loads of nonperishable food.
Capt. Kilipaki Vaughn represented the Friends of the Kaua‘i Fire Department in accepting a $5,000 contribution.
