Over at Vidinha Stadium which encountered a squall just before the break, Island School’s Titus Schweiter netted a goal in the 42nd minute to ice a 2-0 victory over host Kaua‘i High School.
The goal that came in thick of rain pelting the stadium had the scorer joined by other celebrant Voyagers in sliding across the wet grass.
Earlier, Elzardia Ignacio broke the 0-0 deadlock in the final minute before the break with his goal.
Joining Gonsalves and Perez with goals, Isaiah Noguchi scored a goal for Kapa‘a boys who came from a 1-0 bulge at the break to score four nets in the second half.
Waimea’s sole goal came off the foot of Jacob Grossman.
Waimea next hosts Kaua‘i High School boys and girls on Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium. The varsity boys are scheduled to kick off at 10 a.m., followed by the varsity girls starting at noon. The earlier start times are due to allow Waimea players to return to Waimea town for the twilight parade before the Waimea Bridge gets shut down.
Island School will host Kapa‘a on Saturday with the varsity boys starting at 2 p.m., followed by the varsity girls kicking off at 4 p.m. at the Island School campus.
