NAWILIWILI — Partnering with Folds of Honor, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide life-changing educational scholarships for spouses and children of America’a fallen or disabled military and first responders, Hokuala announced the second Operation Rising Star golf tournament on Dec. 17.
Proceeds from the golf tournament go directly to Folds of Honor scholarship recipients throughout the Hawaiian Islands.
“We are humbled to continue our support for Folds of Honor,” said Chris Gampon, general manager of Timbers Kaua‘i. “The scholarships provided make a difference in the lives of so many worthy Hawai‘i recipients. It is our privilege to play a part in such a valuable cause.”
Opening ceremonies for the Operation Rising Star golf tournament will start at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start to follow at 11 a.m. at the Ocean Course at Hokuala. Registration for foursomes or individuals, and sponsorship opportunities can be done online at www.operationrisingstar.golfgenius.com.

“We’d love to get as many local teams from Kaua‘i to participate in this tournament,” said Glenna Wong, who is in charge of Timbers Resort marketing and public information. “We’re also including a Ball Drop with the Operation Rising Star golf tournament.”
Golf balls for the Helicopter Ball Drop, which will take place with the cooperation and support of Airborne Aviation, can be purchased immediately online at www.operationrisingstarballdrop.golfgenius.com.
The main objective of the Operation Rising Star tournament is to provide 27 scholarship opportunities for Hawaiian families of fallen and disabled military, and first responders. Each scholarship requires at least $5,000 in donations, and the goal is to fulfill all 27 qualified scholarship requests.
The entry fee per foursome is $1,000 which includes golf, a tee gift, dinner, access to the silent auction and the reception at Hualani’s.
Following golf play, a reception to honor Folds of Honor sponsors and golf tournament participants will be held at Hualani’s, the Timbers Kaua‘i oceanfront restaurant, with food, live entertainment, a silent auction featuring exclusive prizes from golf courses acr0ss the United States, luxury hotel stays and local vendor 0fferings.
Since its inception in 2007, Folds of Honor has awarded more than 51,000 educational scholarships with 45 percent minority recipients, with an economic impact of more than $240 million.
The inaugural Operation Rising Star golf tournament at the Ocean Course in December 2022 raised nearly $125,000, equating to 23 scholarships through the generous contributions and participation of local organizations, including the PGA of America Golf Professionals and individuals.
