Ernesto ‘Nato’ Alalem
Ernesto “Nato” Alalem, 64, passed away on Nov. 23, 2023. He was born in Lihu‘e on Dec. 18, 1959.
He was preceded in passing by his parents Simeon Carinio Sr. and Consuelo Carinio.
Ernesto is survived by his siblings Simeon Carinio Jr., Marilou Boone Carinio, Diana Carinio, Freddy Carinio, Barry (Ella) Carinio, Kirk (Carla) Carinio, six nieces and four nephews.
A celebration of life will be announced in the future.

Michael Wayne Kiyabu
Michael Wayne Kiyabu, 76, passed away on Nov. 29, 2023, in Kapa‘a. He was born on May 9, 1947, in Hawai‘i. He was in the U.S. Navy and a retired Kaua‘i Police Officer.
He was preceded in death by mother Hatsuko Kiyabu, aunts Rita S. Kiyabu and Theresa Braun.
He is survived by wife Lori R. Kiyabu, son Michael K.G. Kiyabu (Michael Haritos), daughters Lori G.K. (Glen) Balisacan, Kristy Sasachika (Chance Kinney), stepdaughter Liana (Randall) Koerte, sister Teri Kaluahine, brothers Larry Fernandez, Eddie Fernandez, five grandchildren, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at later date.

Annie F. Okubo
Annie F. Okubo, 94, passed away on Dec. 2, 2023. She was born in Kipu on Aug. 28, 1929, and was the owner of Annie’s Beauty Shop in Lihu‘e.
She was preceded in passing by her husband Suemi Okubo, parents Ryoji and Sakayo Kodama, brother Hajime Kodama and sister Katherine Takaki.
Annie is survived by her children Darrelyn (Stanley) Tanji, Eric Okubo, Joyce (Dale) Johns, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, sisters Jane Nakamura, Flora Oshima and Ethel Tachikawa.
Private services will be held at a later date. The family requests no koden (monetary gifts).

Setsuko Hiranaka
Setsuko Hiranaka, 94, passed away at home in Lihu‘e on Nov. 29, 2023. She was born in Lihu‘e on April 12, 1929.
She was preceded in passing by her parents Gie and Nobu Hiranaka, brothers Noboru, Wataru, Iwao, Yoshio, Mamoru, and Isamu Hiranaka, and sisters Sumiyo Kato and Haruko Hiranaka.
She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
Private services will be held at a later date and the family requests no koden (monetary gifts).
