LIHU‘E — General maintenance ranging from pothole repairs to striping are scheduled for local roads in the coming days, the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation said in a weekly update.
The following is a list of projects on the island of Kaua‘i for the workweek ending Dec. 8. Work is weather permitting.
Kapa‘a
A single lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) is possible for construction of fire breaks in either direction between Kawaihau Road and Mailihuna Road on Monday, Dec. 4, through Friday, Dec. 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Kealia
A right lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) is possible for clearing of guardrails in either direction, between mile post 10 and 11.5, on Monday, Dec. 4, through Friday, Dec. 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Kilauea
A right lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) is possible for clearing of guardrails in either direction, between mile post 25.5 and 26.5, in the vicinity of Kalihiwai Road, on Monday, Dec. 4, and Tuesday, Dec. 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Koloa
A right lane closure on Kaumuali‘i Highway (Route 50) is possible for installation of reflective pavement markers on the travel way edge and center line. in either direction between mile post 5 and 6, beginning Monday, Dec. 4, through Friday, Dec. 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Lihu‘e
A right lane closure on Kaumuali‘i Highway (Route 50) is possible for grass cutting in either direction between Rice Street and Pu‘uana Road, on Monday, Dec. 4, through Friday, Dec. 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
A single lane closure on Kapule Highway (Route 51) is possible for removal of striping and installation of new striping in either direction in the vicinity of Ka‘ana Street and Ahukini Road, on Monday, Dec. 4, through Friday, Dec. 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. During the closure traffic will be allowed in both directions.
A single lane shift on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) is possible for sidewalk installation in the northbound direction between mile post 0.7 and 2.5, in the vicinity of Kuene Road and Kapule Highway, beginning Monday, Dec. 4, through Friday, Dec. 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Princeville
A right lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 560) is possible for debris removaland hauling of slope material in the eastbound direction between Hanalei Plantation Road and Ohiki Road, on Monday, Dec. 4, through Friday, Dec. 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Traffic will be alternating through the open lane.
Again, I’ve been asking DOT-H to clean up the Lihue-bound shoulder in the Wailua Stretch. Not even a response, much less any action. When will it be done? And when will regularly-scheduled cleanups of that narrow shoulder be commenced?
Kaua’i has so many dangerous roads!!! Koloa town has so many potholes,,, so dangerous!!
