Happy birthday, Melia Okura of Tsunami Taiko, who celebrated her special day by doing Chinese Lion (yes, we have Chinese Lions here on Kaua‘i!) duty at the Contractors Association of Kaua‘i 66th annual General Membership Meeting and Installation of Officers on Thursday at Puakea Golf Course, where Braden Kobayashi of Grove Farm was braving the evening rains to clear the drainage of cut grass that clogged the drain.

Kudos to Chip Bahouth, Gavin Baker and Sheraton Kaua‘i Resort and its Table 53 program for hosting more than 200 kupuna guests to the Holiday Kupuna lunch where guests got a nicely ribboned box of Diamond Bakery soda crackers (Lori Almarza of the Kaua‘i United Way remembers crumbling them into hot chocolate!).
It’s still not too late to take in the Royal Holiday Grand Lighting Ceremony that takes place Saturday evening from 6 p.m. in the gardens of Royal Sonesta Kaua‘i Resort to enjoy the combined efforts of Royal Sonesta and its six community partners amid a mini vendor fair and snacks available for purchase.
And, Santa is coming to The Shops at Kukui‘ula on Wednesday, and every Wednesday leading to Christmas, during Kaua‘i Culinary Market at The Shops. He’s supposed to be there from 4 to 6 p.m. at the hale in the Palm Court area, and especially on Dec. 8 at the Keiki Bash (that happens from 6 to 8 p.m.), where The Shops is forecasting snow. Guests are invited to bring a $10 donation or five nonperishable food items to benefit Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank and participate in decorating gingerbread cookies, create s’mores and a fun scavenger hunt for prizes.
