LIHU‘E — The Rotary Club of Kaua‘i Lights on Rice holiday parade, currently with more than 60 participating parade units and more than 3,000 participating individuals, will take place on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
LIHU‘E — The Rotary Club of Kaua‘i Lights on Rice holiday parade, currently with more than 60 participating parade units and more than 3,000 participating individuals, will take place on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
The parade will start at the Vidinha Stadium, make its way west on Ho‘olako to Rice streets, and then head mauka to end on ‘Eiwa Street at the historic County Building.
In preparation for the event, which includes the Festival of Lights lighting its holiday display on the lawn of the historic County Building, the Kaua‘i Police Department will close all streets along the parade route at 5:30 p.m. The closure will remain in effect until 8 p.m. or until the parade ends.
Also, Kukui Grove Center said there will be a free shuttle service from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Motorists taking advantage of this service can park at the shopping center and take a shuttle from the bus stop near Macy’s to the First Hawaiian Bank, Lihu‘e Branch. The shopping center also modified its Holiday Light Show to start at 8 p.m.
To accommodate the parade and road closures, the bus stop on ‘Eiwa Street will be temporarily be relocated to Hardy Street. All routes will service the stop at Hardy and ‘Eiwa intersection from 5 to 10 p.m. on Friday. Additionally, Route 70, Lihu‘e Shuttle will not operate on Rice Street during the parade.
No parking will be allowed along the parade route, including ‘Eiwa and Umi streets after 5:30 p.m. on Friday. There will also be no parking permitted in the parking lots of the historic County Building and the state buildings from 3 p.m. to midnight to allow parade floats to park in these lots.
In addition to the Lights on Rice parade, the Kaua‘i Museum will be hosting its annual Christmas Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday.
For the safety of pedestrians and vendors at the fair, there will be no access to the Lihu‘e Civic Center parking lot through the ‘Eiwa Street entrance from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday. More information can be found online at www.kauaimuseum.org/.
