LIHU‘E — Through Christmas Eve, The Garden Island will share daily, front-page stories about families and individuals (we don’t use their real names), who are facing challenges and would appreciate a little help this holiday season.
The Christmas Fund is an avenue for everyone to provide that assistance. Donations are used by Zonta Club members to purchase gift certificates that are in turn distributed to families and individuals through social-service agencies.
Each donation is accounted for and recorded. There are no administrative costs involved, and money goes directly to provide for those in need of Christmas presents and groceries.
If you hold a fundraiser for the Christmas Fund, let us know and we’ll spread the word. Anyone making a donation of $200 or more can have their picture published in TGI.
Donations may be made by way of the website, Zonta-Kaua‘i.org, or checks can be made payable to The Zonta Club of Kaua‘i Foundation, P.O. Box 3032, Lihu‘e, HI 96766.
The following are some stories we would like to share with our readers.
• Kurt is a kind man, who is disabled. He likes helping and sharing with others. His only mode of transportation is a very old bike and he could use a newer one.
• Pua is a lovely disabled woman, who is very caring and likes to help homeless folks. She loves animals, especially cats, but is not able to have one where she lives. Pua could really use some new linen, especially sheets and a new pillow.
• Keahi, a single male, recently moved into housing. He is trying to get back on his feet and recently started working. He is looking for household items, such as kitchenware, a bed, linens, toiletries and laundry supplies to help him settle into his new living environment.
• Timmy is a single dad of two, with one being special needs. He works two jobs to make ends meet, but still struggles with paying the bills. This holiday season, he would like to make it special while being able to make a nice dinner for his girls. He would also like to have gifts for his little girls, he is wanting sensory toys for his special needs daughter and supplies for his other daughter.
• Carter is a single father with four daughters ranging from high school to elementary. Carter works a full-time job and has many side jobs to be able to afford the basic necessities for his daughters. Carter would appreciate nail art supplies for his daughter Casey; squish mellows for Charlotte, art supplies for Cora and sporting items for Camden.
• Thunder is a single male, who is trying to pick up the pieces and rebuild his life. After living in his car for over a year, he has moved into housing. He is looking for household items, such as kitchen supplies, gift cards, laundry supplies and toiletries so he can save up his money to get back on his feet. Anything would be appreciated.
• Daisy is a single mom of three girls, she is recently separated from her husband and it trying to support her girls on her own. Daisy’s girls all enjoy cooking and would appreciate cooking and baking supplies and utensils. Charlotte, the youngest, would like to have games for her to play after school. Anything is appreciated.
