Congratulations to the Salvation Army’s Majors George and Flo Rodriguera, and Lts. Andrielli and Jose Gonzalez on feeding (Kahu Kelly of the West Kaua‘i Episcopal Church said she was just going after the dedication of six new Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity homes, it’s “tradition” the Salvation Army feeds people on the day before Thanksgiving) nearly a thousand people between the Lihu‘e and Hanapepe Corps.

Mahalo, Kaua‘i for surpassing the 3,500 shoebox estimate … Christina Ensman of Operation Christmas Child said after the doors to the 40-foot shipping container was sealed (Mike Ensman said we started with a 20-footer, 12 years ago), Kaua‘i had contributed some 3,640 Operation Christmas shoeboxes, which will be distributed to keiki in the Philippines, Mongolia, Thailand, the Ukraine, Madagascar, El Salvador and Uruguay.
And congratulations, Milani Pimental and her Kaua‘i Habitat for Humanity ‘ohana (yes, that’s including the AmeriCorps crew!) that dedicated the six new homes in the Waimea Huakai subdivision (yes, they even survived the Waimea High School evacuation drill!). Rep. Dee Morikawa (remember when the Public Works water truck would sweep down Rice Street a few days ahead of the Lights on Rice holiday parade, Ken Morikawa?) announced that the Waimea High School JROTC has been invited to participate in a parade in Europe!
What a tremendous honor for these westside cadets! They represent not only themselves and the unit, they represent the island, the state, the nation and all those soldiers who paid the ultimate price in helping Europe protect its freedom! Now, how to fundraise to get these people over the Atlantic Ocean … stay tuned.
