NAWILIWILI — The nationally ranked University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Wahine beach volleyball team closes out it fall schedule with a highly anticipated trip to the Garden Island, states a UH press release.
Hawai‘i will host the inaugural Kaua‘i Invitational in a mix of competition and community outreach from Nov. 17 through Nov. 19 at Kalapaki Beach fronting the Royal Sonesta Kaua‘i Resort in Nawiliwili.
The three-day Kaua‘i Invitational will include pairs and team competition, when UH welcomes 2023 NCAA semifinalist Florida State, as well as Big West rival Cal Poly San Luis Obispo starting with the Queens of Kaua‘i challenge that plays from 2 p.m. on Friday.
The weekend will also be highlighted by a Keiki Play Day on Saturday from 8 to 9:30 a.m., where the interactive session will allow keiki to meet, greet and learn from players and coaches. Among those anticipating the session are the 2008 Olympic gold medalist Todd Rogers of Cal Poly and two-time Olympian Nick Lucena of Florida State.
“Getting the team over to Kaua‘i to compete this fall is a dream come true,” said Hawai‘i head coach Evan Silbertein. “My vision is to integrate program outreach and neighbor island experience with our exciting brand of collegiate beach volleyball. It’s a win-win for athletes and community alike. A big mahalo to Duke’s Kaua‘i, The Royal Sonestra and the local support for helping make this happen.”
Admission to the Kaua‘i Invitational is free.
