KAPA‘A — The bubble for an undefeated season for the Lihu‘e Patriots 12 and Under tackle football team was popped on Sunday, when the team suffered a 14-6 loss to the Hanapepe Colts in a Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League game contested at Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex.
According to a Lihu‘e Patriots 12U coach, the team, despite the Sunday blemish, is still the champion of the 12U division in the KPWFL, and the loss does not impact a trip the team accepted to participate in a Pop Warner bowl game in California later this year.
The Lihu‘e 12U team is one of several teams that will be traveling off-island for post season play, and this team needs some help to defray travel expenses to California.
According to team mom Sweetie Abreu, the team is inviting people to its fundraising pancake breakfast and car wash, which will take place on Saturday at Isenberg Park, the league association’s home base.
The pancake breakfast, which includes pancakes, Portuguese Sausage and eggs, will take place from 7 a.m. to noon with tickets being $12 for each plate.
The car wash will take place from 8 a.m. to noon with tickets varying depending on the vehicle being washed. Tickets for cars are $10 each. Tickets for sport utility vehicles and trucks are $15 each.
For presale tickets or more information, call Abreu at 808-652-2652.
Other Lihu‘e Patriot football teams traveling include the 9 Under team, who will be winging to Maui to play for their division championship. The 14Under team will also be playing on Maui.
No information on their fundraising needs and efforts are available.
The Lihu‘e Patriots were involved in recent fundraising activities, including the Rice Street Block Party, the Hanapepe’s Biggest Little Carnival and helping with the Harvest Festival pumpkin giveaways.
