HANAPEPE — The Hanapepe Sunshine Market will close at the end of the month, the county’s Office of Economic Development (OED) announced Monday.
Farmers at the market will relocate to Hale Pule Farmers Market in Waimea starting Thursday, Dec. 7, to continue selling produce.
“After years of serving as a beloved staple in the Hanapepe community, the Hanapepe Sunshine Market has decided to merge with the established Hale Puna Farmers’ Market in Waimea as they share in the same commitment to emphasize sustainability, support local, engage with our community, and improve the overall experience for vendors and customers,” said OED Director Nalani Brun in a statement.
“This merger will result in a larger and more diverse vendor community, offering a broad range of fresh and unique products for the West Side community to enjoy,” she added.
The Hale Puna Farmers’ Market sells locally sourced produce, artisanal goods and handcrafted items.
The Hanapepe Sunshine Market’s last day will be Thursday, Nov. 30. Both markets have the same schedule, running every Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
The market is located at 9567 Huaka‘i Road.
