LIHU‘E — Wrestling coach Jody Strittmatter, also the director of the Young Guns Wrestling Club, will lead a free half-day wrestling clinic on Friday at the old Kaua‘i High School gym.
“Coach Strittmatter is the latest in a long list of wrestling coaches who have come to Kaua‘i in the fall to help us start our high school season,” said Coach Mac Pigott, the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation wrestling director. “On Saturday, we will have a practice tournament, and the last opportunity to learn the new digital tournament directing system that will be used for the league tournaments that start in January 2024.”
Friday’s clinic goes from 8 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. and from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and will focus on top and bottom positions of wrestling.
Strittmatter brings a list of credentials to the mat, including being a high school state champion, the Cadet Fargo National Freestyle Champion, four-time All American, two-time Division II National Champion for UPJ, and two-time Big Ten Champion for the University of Iowa.
He has also taught wrestling to students who went on to win 10 NCAA championships, five world championships, hundreds of state championships and thousands of state medals.
