NAWILIWILI — Kaua‘i people will have an opportunity to meet and watch the University of Hawai‘i Wahine Beach Volleyball team at Kalapaki Beach when the team participates in the Kaua‘i Invitational starting Nov. 17 and continuing through Nov. 19 at the sands of Kalapaki Beach, according to a flier submitted by Fonz Nartatez.
The tournament opens Friday with the Queens of Kaua‘i, described as a fun European style of Queens, from 2 p.m., Nov. 17 fronting the Sonesta Kaua‘i Beach Resort and Duke’s restaurant at Kalapaki.
UH Wahine Beach Volleyball fans will have an opportunity to meet and greet the current players and coaches of the team during the “Keiki Play Day,” which runs from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 18.
The Kalapaki Challenge featuring Hawai‘i, Florida State University and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo will take the sand from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Nov. 18.
Nov. 19 will feature bracket play from 8 a.m. to noon, and the finals going from noon to 3 p.m.
The University of Hawai‘i wahine beach volleyball team was in action most recently at the AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Pairs Championship at the John Hunt Park in Alabam,a where the duo of Kaylee Glagau and Julia Thelle finished action with a straight set loss in consolation play.
A University of Hawai‘i press release said the tandem fell to Reilly Allred and Parker Bracken of LSU by scores of 21-18 and 21-16. Glagau and Thelle, who advanced to the 32-pair championship bracket following a strong showing in pool play, faltered in the final two days, dropping three of four matches.
The pair finished 3-4 overall and finished in a tie for 23rd in the 64-team field.
Coached by Head Coach Evan Silbersteing and Assistant Coach Armen Zakarian with support from volunteer assistant Lea Kruse, the Wahine Beach Volleyball team features Jaime Santer, Julia Lawrenz, Amirah Ali, Julia Thelle, Anna Maidment, Kaylee Glagau, Alana Embry, Arianna Franklin, Riley Wagoner, Sydney Miller, Sabrina Hardisty, Sydney Amiatu, Jesse Mann, Kendall Kaelin, Sarah Burton, Cami Loker, Caprice Lorenzo, Kristen Serano, Clara Cantlen, Pani Napoleon and Sophie Buschmann.
