Samuel Kekoakaua Woodward Sr.
Samuel Kekoakaua Woodward Sr., 79, of Kilauea, passed away on Oct. 24, 2023. He was born in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, on Nov. 10, 1943, and retired from Security Services with Princeville Resort.
He was preceded in death by his father Samuel Kekoanawelu Sr., mother Edith Pohaku Ho‘oikaika, brothers Stanley Kamaki, Dayne Saffery Ku‘uipo and sister Heather Hokulani.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, sons Rodney (Cathy) Woodward, Samuel (Bethany) Woodward Jr., four daughters and two hanai daughters, Darnel Woodward, Sherry Woodward, Shanell (Brian) Gerardo, Sharon (Cody) Graham, Nora (Noe) Pahinui, Tobey (Lance) Gonsalves, siblings Hayden (Jackie) Woodward, Llewelyn (Nadine) Woodward, Darriel Woodward, Celeste Castillo, 17 grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of Samuel’s life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, at Kaua‘i Christian Fellowship North Shore with visitation from 10 a.m. and services beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Kilauea Japanese Cemetery.

Kith ‘Nalu’ Silva-Lacro
Nalu passed away on Sept. 7, 2023, at the age of 28 years old, in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i. He was born in Waimea, Kaua‘i on Dec. 1, 1994.
Nalu was an amazing person who loved hunting, fishing, and worked with Gill Construction Company. He had a contagious smile and was always there to help others. He’ll be deeply missed by his family and everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by father Edward Lacro, maternal grandparents Paul P. Sr. and Helen Silva, uncles Noland Silva, Orlie Kimble, Joseph Grace, paternal grandparents Vicente and Teodora Lacro.
He is survived by mother Paula Bacio, sisters Phrystal Bacio, Larlyn (David) Fitzpatrick, Laynette (Tim) Parbo, Leslie Lacro, Leilan Kolaski, brothers Lyman (Erika) Lacro, Chad (Amberlynn) Rita, Chaz Rita, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Service will be held at a later date.

Jancy Lee Kano
Jancy Lee Kano, 70, of Wailua, passed away on Oct. 31, 2023. She was born in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, on May 11, 1953, and worked on Kaua‘i as a front desk manager for Kaua‘i Beach Resort.
She was preceded in passing by her parents Lucio and Lucia Bardago, mother Lauretta Ambrosio, brother Michael Martin and sister Michelle Martin.
Jancy is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Scott Kano, daughters Nicole Petri, Chelsea Kano, grandchildren Chyson Telles-Petri, Bailey Doctolero, siblings Russell (Noreen) Bardago, Maylene (Bob) Collins, Keoni (Ron Choy-Foo) Martin, Teri Concepcion and stepdad Ralph “Tony” Ambrosio.
A celebration of life will be held at Immaculate Conception Church in Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i, on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023. Viewing will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., a Mass will be held at 10 a.m., and burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home.

Jeanelle ‘Benki’ Marie Somera
Jeanelle “Benki” Marie Somera, 54, passed away on Sept. 28, 2023, at her home in Kapa‘a. She was born on Aug. 20, 1969, in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, and worked as an assistant manager at Pono Kai Resort.
She was preceded in passing by father Rudolph “Rudy” Somera and grandparents Silverio and Anastacia Pegeder.
Benki is survived by sons Ryan Somera-Gonsalves, Cory Somera-Payomo, mother Natividad Ramos and four grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 25, at Immaculate Conception Church beginning at 8 a.m. with burial and celebration of life to follow.

Clarence Keichi Higashi
Clarence Keichi Higashi, of ‘Ele‘ele, passed away on Oct. 22, 2023, at his residence at the age of 81. He was born on Oct. 26, 1941, in ‘Ele‘ele. He was retired from the State of Hawai‘i, Department of Accounting & General Services (DAGS).
He was preceded in death by parents Kumao and Matsuno Higashi and brother-in-law James Chen.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years Lilibeth of Lihu‘e, son Clesson H. (Liza) Higashi of Philadelphia, daughter Alison A. Higashi of Lihu‘e, brothers Robert (Kazue) Higashi of California, Dennis (Aileen) Higashi of Lihu‘e, sister Penelope Chen of Taiwan, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, at the Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation is from 9 to 10 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at 10 a.m.
The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Herman Hajime Arbilera
Herman Hajime Arbilera, 67, passed away on Oct. 3, 2023, at The Queen’s Medical Center battling illness. He was born on Dec. 12, 1955, in Waimea, Kaua‘i. He moved to Maui ending of 2001.
He was very passionate about working as a drywall specialist for many years. Loved surfing, walking on the beach, working in the yard, and most of all spending time with loved ones BBQing and talking stories.
He is survived by his lifelong partner Wendy Fulfs, sons Hart (Cindy), Dayne (Mynalei), Hyran (Kelly), daughter Destiny (Alvin), seven granddaughters, four grandsons, sisters Gail and Vivian, numerous nieces and nephews.
A private ceremony and spreading of ashes will be held for close family and friends at Kekaha Cemetery (Park Hook Tong) on Saturday, Dec. 2, starting at 8 a.m.
