LIHU‘E — The Kapa‘a High School girls bowling team outpinned the Kaua‘i High School team by 82 pins during the final week of the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation bowling at Kaua‘i Bowl in the Rice Shopping Center.
Led by the match high 213 pinfall by Rian Yamamoto, the Lady Warriors finished with a 2,083 pinfall to the Red Raiders 2,001, but could not usurp the Kaua‘i High School girls from the Central Pacific Bank KIF championship that was determined earlier in the season.
As champions, the Red Raiders finished by taking first place honors in four of the six season matches, and dropping two matches to Kapa‘a High School.
Kapa‘a High School’s Skye Tadani finished as the top girls individualist with a 188 average over nine games. Tadani was also one of three Kapa‘a girls bowlers named to the KIF All-Stars. The other three spots in the six-bowler list were Kaua‘i High School girls. They were led by Mikayla Pacheco-Villanueva, who finished the season with a 167.78 average.
On the boys lanes, Kaua‘i High School, led by Aaron Juliano’s game-high 222, reaffirmed its announcement of CPB KIF champions after finishing with a 2,176 pinfall, just 33 pins ahead of Waimea High School, which posted a 2,149 pinfall. Waimea was led by the high-point from Richard Palacio. who ended with a 202 high game.
Juliano also secured the top boys’ individualist honors with a 207 average. He was one of four Kaua‘i High bowlers named to the KIF boys all-star bowling team.
Both the Kaua‘i High School boys and girls teams will advance to the 2023 Hawai‘i Army National Guard Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association bowling championship that will contest on Nov. 2 and 3 at the Schofield Bowling Center on O‘ahu.
In addition to the teams representing the KIF, the top individualists from the boys division include Kapa‘a’s William Kimura, who holds a 201.44 average3, Richard Palacio of Waimea, who is a KIF all-star with a 186.89 average.
On the girls lanes, the top individualists include Tadani of Kapa‘a with a 188 average, Yamamoto of Kapa‘a with a 172.22 average and Kailee Gorospe of Kapa‘a with a 164.22 average.
