HANAPEPE — The Hanapepe Public Library, with help from its Friends of the Hanapepe Public Library, announced a series of family-friendly events to celebrate the Halloween and fall season.
On Thursday, “Teller-of-Tales Uncle Mark” of Hanapepe’s own Storybook Theatre joins the library staff to introduce the five principle “Ghost Story” families in Hawai‘i — as he told them around the Koke‘e campfire for more than 25 years.
This event takes place from 5:15 to 7 p.m. “Spooky-good” snacks will be served, courtesy of the Friends of the Hanapepe Public Library.
On Saturday, the library and friends will be hosting a Craft and Used Book Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Hanapepe Public Library.
The Friends of the Hanapepe Public Library are skilled in oshibana, or the art of pressing flowers and their use in images for handmade cards, bookmarks and other items. These items normally retail for $3 each, but they will be offered at two for $5 on the last Saturday in October.
Books of all kinds will be available for a $1 each for hardcover books, and 50 cents each for paperbacks.
Also available are DVDs, many of which are “like-new” condition. These will be priced at $1 each.
Proceeds from the Craft and Used Book Sale will be used by the Friends of the Hanapepe Public Library to support, enhance and benefit the programs and services of the library.
On Halloween, or Oct. 31 for the non-ghouls, teens and young people are invited to Bust a Ghost and win a prize or something sweet at the library from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This drop-in event is best for people ages 12 to 18 years old.
