The Kaua‘i High School Japanese Club has been busy during fall break, creating fresh floral arrangements (did you check out the ikebana displays at Matsuri Kaua‘i?) as a fundraiser for the club’s anticipated trip to Japan. They made so many displays, the over supply was taken to the Downtown Lihu‘e Night Market for close out specials … they’ve even got plans for graveyard flowers for Veterans Day.

Kaua‘i Performing Arts Center teacher and administrator Carla Kirk (she got to meet celebrity Lexi Jones at the market) is recruiting students for the next semester (fall semester production “The Doll House” is already announced for later after Halloween). Right on Rice urban farm’s Sylvia Lessa (she and Alex were helping with the Healthy Half Mile project, too) and Angela Braulaurier were distributing seedlings with the help of Alexandria Webster of Samsati Yoga (plant-based nutrition and lifestyles?) in the middle of the food offerings (mahalo, Laurel Oishi for the Hamura’s Flying Saucer!).
Stan’s Flying Saucers (they do more than just the Central Pacific Bank parking lot) had new strawberry saucers joining the regular original and apple flavors. Do you notice how many people leave the market with packages and to-go platters of food?
OK, time to check out Pau Hana Market (free pumpkins for keiki, next Monday!) to see what Laurie Ho and Amy Chun bought at Matsuri Kaua‘i (good job, Pearl Shimizu and the Kaua‘i Japanese organization!), where Sue Okada was busy (even had Bev Pang volunteering) taking care of customers getting a jump start on New Year charms.
