LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Fire Department invites everyone to the inaugural Fire Prevention Week kickoff event being done in partnership with the Kaua‘i Philippine Cultural Center on Saturday.
Festivities start at 9 a.m. and will run through 2 p.m. at the cultural center, which is located behind YMCA of Kaua‘i.
“We view this event as a great opportunity to bring our partners and community together,” said Kaua‘i Fire Department Fire Prevention Capt. Justin Kaeo Kinoshita. “In addition to our community risk reduction programs, we want to introduce our public education curriculum t families to encourage a two-way conversation at home.”
During the free event, there will be informational booths from the Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency, the Kaua‘i Police Department and Ocean Safety Bureau. Additionally, there will be fire extinguisher training, hands-on CPR demonstrations, personal wildland fire education and information on the Falls Prevention program for kupuna.
The Fire Prevention Week launch is a family event and will feature fire trucks on display, pictureswith Sparky the fire dog, games, pizza, food trucks and more.
