Are you ready for Saturday?
Are you ready for Saturday?
This is the great pumpkin chase when the Westside community of Kekaha welcomes people (yes, they even had Kapa‘a and Lihu‘e families come during last year’s free pumpkin giveaway!) to Kekaha Neighborhood Center for the free pumpkin giveaway while supplies last, starting at 11 a.m. (lots of time before the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation football game at Hanapepe Stadium at 1:30 p.m.) making it a good reason to spend the day on the westside … food for purchase from the westside nonprofit organizations is another reason for making the trek across Waimea Bridge, and the exhibits and information from supporting groups and even craft vendors offers a whole lot more than just free pumpkins.
The Kaua‘i Fire Department is partnering with Kaua‘i Philippines Cultural Center to launch Fire Prevention Week (kudos to the Department of Hawaiian Homes Lands for creating those Jeremy Makepa-inspired fire breaks across the Hilton Garden Inn at Wailua Bay — dang, missed the monthly Wailua Bay Creators Fair) where families opting to not cross the bridge can enjoy free exhibits (do you know how to properly use a fire extinguisher?) and photo ops (yes, the fire trucks are supposed to be there) and other information like falls prevention (how many of these mitigation efforts parallel fire prevention?)
This all starts at 9 a.m., which gives eastside and central people time to enjoy a rest stop on the way west.
Drive with Aloha as retired radio personality Ron Wood used to say.
