WAIMEA — Heading to Saturday’s Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation air rifle match, both Waimea and Kaua‘i teams were stalemated for the lead in the KIF standings for the fall season sport.
Led by the Menehune girls top shooter, Rochelle Uri firing a total of 256 points, the Waimea girls team (Top 5 sharpshooters) outpointed the Kaua‘i girls team, 1,259 to 1,186 to lead the girls’ standings.
Kaua‘i was led by its top girls sharpshooter Sharba Holi, who collected 249 points over the three positions each shooter had to go through at the range set up in Clem Gomes Gym.
The Kaua‘i boys took the lead in the KIF standings after out-pointing the Menehune by 42 points.
Fredy Padamada was the top Menehune boys scorer with 237 points and was outdistanced by the Raiders, who got 264 points from its top shooter Jacob Andres. He out-pointed the Menehune leader in all three positions.
Over at the Bernice Hundley Gym range in Kapa‘a, Island School swept its series over Kapa‘a High School after the Warriors could field just four shooters in both its boys and girls teams.
The Voyagers took the girls match, 1,084 to 613 points, with its four sharpshooters. The team was led by Christy Heath with 229 points, two points better than the Voyagers’ top girls shooter Victoria Harris, who finished the day with 227 points.
A similar situation took place on the boys range where Kapa‘a’s top boys shooter Kainoa Danner put up 234 points over three positions, 12 points better than the Voyagers’ top shooter Gabriel Kelley, who finished with 222 points.
All four KIF schools — Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i, Island School, and Waimea — will meet on Saturday at the Island School range starting at 10 a.m.
