KAPA‘A — The Center for Spiritual Living will be in its new site, the Kapa‘a Hongwanji Mission social hall, when doors open for meditation at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
CSL Kaua‘i meets every Sunday. The celebration service starts at 10 a.m. with live music, inspirational talks and community time.
“This move is a big step,” said Rev. Patrick Feren. “We find ourselves being called to become an even larger spiritual presence on the island — it’s as if we are saying more fully, ‘This is who we are.’”
CSL Kaua‘i offers a variety of classes, workshops, live events, concerts, outreach activities and more.
“Our center has an active youth program, and we are forming both youth and adult choirs under the direction of musician Barbara Davis,” said Rev. Rita Andriello-Feren.
For the past 10 years, CSL Kaua‘i has been an active contributor to the island’s community.
“This move broadens CSL Kaua‘i’s reach into the greater spiritual community on the island,” said Rev. Rita. “This reach includes supporting the Kapa‘a Hongwanji Buddhist Mission during it Obon dance celebration each year, and serving as a member of the Kaua‘i Interfaith Coucil along with many other local spiritual, faith-based organizations.”
Rev Rita said, “We are a global community with more than 200 members worldwide. Everyone is welcome to join us. We are dedicated to collaborating and outreaching with the greater Kaua‘i community.”
CSL Kaua‘i was founded in 2013 by ordained ministers Rev. Rita Andriello-Feren and Rev. Patrick Feren. Its first location was at the site currently occupied by Hilton Garden Inn at Wailua Bay, formerly the Aloha Aston.
Two years later, CSL Kaua‘i moved to a suite in the East Kaua‘i Professional Building located across Kuhio Highway from Kapa‘a Neighborhood Center and Chicken in a Barrel eatery in Kapa‘a. CSL Kaua‘i has been serving the island from that location for the past eight years, most recently completing a successful global telethon in September.
The Science of Mind and Spirit, which is the spiritual practice of CSL Kaua‘i, was founded by Ernest Holmes, a 19th century spiritual teacher, author and mystic.
“The Science of Mind is not a special revelation of any individual; it is, rather, the culmination of all revelations,” states the book The Science of Mind authored by Holmes. “We take the good wherever we find it, making it our own in so far as we understand it. The realization that Good is Universal, and that as much good as any individual is able to incorporate in his life is his to use, is what constitutes the Science of Mind and Spirit.”
Rev. Rita broke it down.
“Simply put, We are Divine Beings,” she said. “We are love. We are one. The choices we make and the way we use our mind makes a difference in the world. We affect the whole. The goal of our teaching is to assist all in becoming the best versions of themselves.”
