LIHU‘E — Run Club Kaua‘i announced the Kaua‘i Middle School Cross-Country Championship Race on Oct. 20 at the Island School campus, where the first Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation preseason cross-country races were held.

Registration for runners is now open online at www.runclubkauai.com and clicking the ‘register’ tab. Deadline for submitting registrations is on Oct. 18 by 7 p.m. Registration if free.
Open to runners in grades six to eighth, XC Championship runners report to the Island School campus by 4 p.m. on race day. At 4:30 p.m., runners get instruction on the course. The race starts at 5 p.m. for both males and females. Awards and prizes are distributed at 6 p.m.
“The race will be 1.5 miles hosted at the Island School campus,” states the Run Club Kaua‘i website. “Please bring shoes, water and running attire. We are asking runners to user a shirt from their respective schools to encourage school pride.”
Run Club Kaua‘i was founded during the pandemic in March 2021. The middle school race was a project by Emma Burgess, one of the club’s founders, who was a standout runner during her high school career.
She felt there was a lack of things for middle school-aged keiki to do and started the middle school runs as a way of getting younger youth to get interested in running, and perhaps, advance to running events when they reach high school.
Run Club Kaua‘i is a nonprofit, youth, community-based running organization that empowers people to participate in the sport of running in pursuit of enjoyment, health, well-being and competition. It is an affiliate Chapter of Road Runners Club of America.
