LIHU‘E — The collaborative efforts by Kaua‘i High School students and Kukui Grove Center on Saturday during its monthly movie night served as an opportunity for the school to unveil its homecoming plans for this year’s celebration that runs from Sept. 18-23.
Themed “Together We Can,” Red Raiders students were in charge of food, entertainment, games and location setup, which included having members of the different Kaua‘i High School student clubs and groups available to meet the public showing up for the special Disney movie presentation.
The movie served as inspiration for one of the Spirit Week student activities — High School Musical Dupe where students dress up like their favorite High School Musical character — on Sept. 20.
Kaua‘i High School launches Homecoming Week on Sept. 18 with “Get Your Head in the Game!” where a sports jersey from a sport or team is allowed wear on campus during school hours.
Tuesday is Switcheroo, where teachers dress as students and students dress as teachers.
In addition to dressing up on Dupe Day, Kaua‘i High School hosts the Homecoming Powderpuff game (for students and school staff only), and the annual Homecoming Assembly in the school’s recently blessed gym where the school’s Homecoming royalty will be announced.
Thursday, the community is invited to join students at the Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally from 5:30 p.m. at Kukui Grove Center. Thursday is also “Sharpay Day,” where the committee encourages the wearing of pink.
Friday is the students only Red Out and Homecoming Carnival featuring student club fundraisers, entertainment and games in the school’s east courtyard following lunch.
Saturday is the traditional Homecoming Game against Kapa‘a High School.
Due to a broken water line at Vidinha Stadium, league and school officials will announce details of the game at a future date.
