LIHU‘E — Shannon Hiramoto, the island chair for the Hawai‘i Craftsmen Annual Statewide Exhibition, wants to remind artists interested in exhibiting at the show that online registration closes on Aug. 31.
“There are over than $12,000 in prizes, and the opportunity to sell your work,” Hiramoto said. “Last year, three Kaua‘i artists took home prizes for their wonderful pieces. Congratulations to Kimberlin Blackburn (who) won The George Ellis Award, Doug Britt took The Ron and Myra Kent Award for Creative Innovation, and Roberta Griffith earned The Garden Island Arts Council Annual Artist Award. Additionally, Bon Moore’s piece was chosen for the cover of the 2022 exhibit catalog.”
The jury intake is Sept. 9 from noon to 2 p.m. This is the day artists will bring registered pieces to the Kaua‘i Society of Artists (KSA) gallery at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e for in-person jurying by Beth C. McLaughlin, artistic director and chief curator at Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, Massachusetts.
McLaughlin is passionate about expanding awareness of the craft field, promoting the makers and exploring transformative powers of handmade objects.
“I encourage you to attend the 4:30 to 6 p.m. potluck, and Beth’s public presentation even if you are not submitting anything this year,” Hiramoto said. “This is a fun time to gather, learn some new things about the art world and catch up with other artists.”
The day ends with artwork pickup from 6 to 7 p.m. at the KSA gallery. More entry details and the prospectus are online at hawaiicraftsmen.org.
