LIHU‘E — The summer road construction season heads into its final few weeks with numerous projects on tap around the island, including a lot of work taking place in the Wailua area, the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation said in its weekly update.
Here’s a look at roadwork set for this week, weather permitting, on Kaua‘i.
Hanamaulu
A single lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) is possible for road reconstruction and temporary striping in either direction between Kuene Road and Kapule Highway, each day of the week through the morning of Friday, Sept. 1, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Kapa‘a
A single lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) is possible for grass cutting in either direction, between Wailua Alternate Road and Haua‘ala Road on Monday, Aug. 28, through Friday, Sept. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Kealia
A single lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) is possible for paving and striping in either direction, in the vicinity of Mailihuna Road and Aliomanu Road, through Friday, Sept. 1, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Moloa‘a
A right lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) is possible for grass cutting in either direction between mile post 17 and 18, from Monday, Aug. 28, through Friday, Sept. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Puhi
A right lane closure on Kaumuali‘i Highway (Route 50) is possible for grass cutting in either direction in the vicinity of Kikowaena Street and Pu‘uana Road, Monday, Aug. 28, through Friday, Sept. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Wailua
A right lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) is possible in the northbound direction between South Leho Drive and Wailua Bridge on Monday, Aug. 28, through the morning of Thursday, Aug. 31, from 8:30 p.m. to 4 a.m., for sewer manhole rehabilitation work in the left turn pocket at North Leho Drive. Motorists can use the left turn at south Leho Drive.
A center pocket closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) is possible in the southbound direction between South Leho Drive and Wailua Bridge on Thursday, Aug. 31, through the morning of Friday, Sept. 1. from 8:30 p.m. to 4 a.m.. for sewer manhole rehabilitation work in the left turn pocket at North Leho Drive. Motorists can use the the left turn at south Leho Drive.
A left lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) is possible between North Leho Drive and Kuamo‘o Road, on Tuesday, Aug. 29, along the Wailua Plantation Bridge from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. There may be a two- to three-minute intermittent full-closures of the bridge to allow sheet piles to be safely off-loaded with a crane.
A right shoulder closure and narrowed lanes of Kuhio Highway (Route 56) are possible in the southbound direction between mile markers 5.7 and 6.7, in the vicinity of Leho Drive and Kapa‘a Bypass, for the Kuhio Highway Short-Term Improvements. The work can take place day or night throughout the week.
A two lane closure on Kuhio Highway (Route 56) is possible for lane smoothness grinding and striping work in either direction between Kuamo‘o Road and Kapa‘a Bypass, through Friday, Sept. 1, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m
