Nobuko ‘Clara’ Kimata
Nobuko “Clara” Kimata, of ‘Ele‘ele, passed away on Aug. 1, 2023 at Wilcox Medical Center at the age of 97. She was born on May 18, 1926, in Wahiawa, Kaua‘i. She was a retired seamstress and sewing teacher.
She was preceded in death by father Kiyoshi Kimata, mother Kozue Kimata, sister Margaret Ueunten and brother-in-law Kenji Ueunten.
She is survived by brothers Dr. George (Mamie) Kimata of O‘ahu and Herbert (Jane) Kimata of Hanapepe, sister Esther Kimata of O‘ahu, nephews Glen (Danielle) Ueunten, Dr. Kevin (Pi‘ikake) Kimata, Jason (Monica) Kimata and Scott Kimata, nieces Iris (Roy) Umeno, Denise (Mike) Nishiki, Stacie (Jeffrey) Rita and Janis Kimata, and numerous cousins, great-grandnephews and great-grandnieces.
A celebration of life is Sept. 16, at Kaua‘i Soto Zen Temple Zenshuji. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. with service to follow.
The family suggests casual attire and requests no koden (monetary gifts).

Rocky Kekai Kanahele
Rocky Kekai Kanahele passed away on Aug. 5, 2023 on Kaua‘i at the age of 28.
He was born on Oct. 10, 1994, in Honolulu.
He was preceded in death by father Malaki Kanahele, sister Mahina Powwell, grandpa Malaki (Alina) Kanahele and maternal grandparents Kaitinang (Kataba) Nantara.
He is survived by mother Santak Kanahele of Kekaha, brothers Lanikai Kanahele of ‘Ele‘ele and Clifton Kanahele of Waimea, sisters Laurie Pahulehua of Ni‘ihau, Diane Kanahele of Kekaha, Dilynn Kanahele of Kekaha and Stacey Kanahele of Kekaha, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service is at Garden Island Mortuary on Saturday, Sept. 2. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to noon. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Rufina Butay
Rufina Butay, of Hanapepe, passed away on Aug. 16, 2023 at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home at the age of 96. She was born on July 27, 1927, in Pagudpud, Philippines. She was a retired seamstress.
She was preceded in death by husband Antonio Butay, son Wilfred Butay and daughters Pacita Butay and Solidad Olarti.
She is survived by son Kelly Butay of Tacoma, Washington, daughters Ofelia Butay Tutop of ‘Ele‘ele and Lani Butay Guillermo of Honolulu, hanai daughter Michal Nakashima of Hanapepe, 20 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren, sister Aning Manegdeg Ignacio of the Philippines, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Sept. 23, at Garden Island Mortuary. Visitation is from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and service from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Solidad Manaday Lagazo
Solidad Manaday Lagazo, of Kekaha, passed away on June 29, 2023 at Wilcox Medical Center at the age of 87. She was born on Dec. 14, 1935. She worked as an aide for Yamaguchi Bus Service until 2021.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Genaro Tabing Lagazo Sr., parents Carlos Corpuz Manaday and Valentina Alejandro Manaday, daughter Valerie Ann Lagazo, grandson Jerry Lagazo Jr. and siblings Rosalia Fontanilla, Andria Manaday, Pacita Boro and Martin Manaday.
She is survived by sons Calvin (Valerie) Lagazo, Jerry Lagazo Sr., Gerard (Sylvia) Lagazo, Ronald (Wanda) Lagazo and Genera (Shelly) Lagazo Jr., 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, brother Steven Manaday, sisters Felicidad Taguma and Maximina Carveiro, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Hanapepe Salvation Army. Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by service. The family request casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Julia S. ‘Kinney’ Mihara
Julia S. “Kinney” Mihara, of Kalaheo, passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on Aug. 15, 2023 at the age of 94. She was born on Oct. 11, 1928 in Hawai‘i.
She was a retired secretary at Duartes Tires and Recap in Kalaheo.
She was preceded in death by husband Thomas Mihara and son Jeffrey Mihara.
She is survived by sons Robert and Steven Mihara and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A private celebration of life will be held by the family.
