Peter Paul ‘Rip’ Rayno
Peter Paul “Rip” Rayno, 83, passed away at his home in Lihu‘e on July 18, 2023. He was born on Kaua‘i on Nov. 1, 1939, and was raised in Hanama‘ulu.
He was preceded in death by parents Peter and Beatrice Rayno, daughter Roxi Makena and brother James “Cashim” Amorin.
He is survived by daughter Joy (Kerry) Nuivo of Lihu‘e, grandchildren Brad “Pekelo” (Tara) Dettloff of O‘ahu, Ryndie “Luana” (Gabriel) Sarsona of Idaho, Lyle “Kilika” (Jennie) Dettloff of Washington, Angela “Kashmir” Cleveland Makena Rayno, Kolton “Makana” Medeiros and Chanler “Aikane” Medeiros, all of Lihu‘e, brother Gene (Marilyn “Tootsie”) Rayno of Lihu‘e, sister Matilda “Matty” (Amorin) Baldovino of Washington, sister-in-law Maggie Amorin of Hanama‘ulu, and five great-grandchildren.
He attended Hanama‘ulu School and graduated from Kaua‘i High School in 1958. He was an athlete, coached multiple sports including baseball, softball, basketball and football, and was a referee. He worked for the Lihu‘e Plantation Company until its closure, Kaua‘i Surf and Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School up until the end of the 2022-23 school year. He volunteered much of his time for the Kaua‘i community.
Funeral services are at Immaculate Conception Church on Friday, Aug. 18. Visitation begins at 9 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m., and burial will follow at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.
Shikera Lehua Wilhelm
Shikera Lehua Wilhelm passed away on July 18, 2023 in Waimea, at the age of 34. She was born on March 6, 1989. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her dad Edward Dean-Bryon Wilhelm, brother Berdedale Keoni Wilhelm-Kutzen, maternal grandparents Joseph S. and Mary E. Kutzen and paternal grandparents Edward D. and Ruby L. Wilhelm.
She is survived by her significant other Rio Rufes, son Ramzee Marley Wilhelm-Rufes of Waimea, daughter Kharmine Faith L.A. Wilhelm-Rufes of Waimea, mother Sonya Faith Wilhelm of Waimea, papa Klaine Kuapahi of Waimea, brothers Ka‘aomae S. Wilhelm of O‘ahu and Dean I. K. (Shyann) Wilhelm of Las Vegas, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Salt Pond Beach Park main pavilion. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. and service at 11 a.m.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family the arrangements.
Isaac Apolani Kanahele
Isaac Apolani Kanahele passed away on Aug. 3, 2023 on Kaua‘i at the age of 62.
He was born on Nov. 8, 1961 on Ni‘ihau. He was a ranch hand and truck driver.
He was preceded in death by Jason I. Kanahele.
He is survived by his wife Kay K. Kanahele, daughters Myrahann (Brian) Kanahele Gerado, Tiffany Kanahele, Poni Kahale, Waipuilani (John) Kanahele, Kathy Ui Kaohelauli‘i and Ku‘ualohalani Kanahele, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, mother Betty-Uilama Kanahele, hanai dad Papa Ku‘ulei-Kanani Beniamina, brothers Uilama-Noelani Kanahele and George (Elizabeth) Kawamura, sister Ku‘uipo Kanahele, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, Pastor Joy-Shan Foster, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Garden Island Mortuary. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at noon.
