Jose L. Bernades Sr.
Jose L. Bernades Sr.
Jose L. Bernades Sr. passed peacefully on June 14, 2023, at Wilcox Medical Center at the age of 87. He was born on July 14, 1935, in Koloa. He was an U.S. Army veteran, a retired supervisor at Lihu‘e Plantation Company, and owner of Bernades Welding.
He was preceded in death by parents Gregorio and Crisanta Bernades, sister Helen Batangan and brother-in-law Pete Batangan.
He is survived by wife Eden Lopez, brother Larry (Julie) Bernades, sisters Trinie and Jean Bernades, daughter Michel (Ed) Cummings, sons Jose Jr. (Renee) Bernades, Bryan (Rebekkah) Bernades, mother of his children Margaret Bernades, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit the family on Friday, Aug. 18, at Kaua‘i Veterans Center in Lihu‘e from 5 to 8 p.m.
A service is Saturday Aug. 19, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Visitation for family is from 8:30 to 9 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. for friends, Mass celebrated at 10 a.m., and burial will follow at the Kaua‘i Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe at 1 p.m.
Come join Jose’s family and friends for a celebration of life gathering after the burial at the farm in Anahola on Hulu Place starting at 4 p.m.

Keith Suga
Keith Suga, of Hanapepe, passed away on June 18, 2023, at his residence at the age of 46. He was born on Jan. 22, 1977, in Lihu‘e. He was an operation manager at Pacific Concrete Cutting & Coring.
He was preceded in death by father Daniel Isaac Suga, grandparents Ronald and Kay Suga and James and Haruko Izumi.
He is survived by wife Jill Suga of Hanapepe, son Kelson Suga (Chaslee Aki), daughter Keisha Suga, mother Blanche Suga of Hanapepe, brothers Scott Suga (Gayle Caoagas) of Waimea, Kevin Suga (Leilani) of Hanapepe, nieces Kendra and Leily Suga, nephew Keiji Kitaguchi, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service is Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Kaua‘i War Memorial Convention Hall. Visitation begins at 8 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at 11 a.m.
The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Preston Kaulana Garcia
Preston Kaulana Garcia, 35, of Kapa‘a, passed away on May 7, 2023. He was born on Oct. 14, 1987 in Lihu‘e.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather William Workman Sr.
Preston is survived by his wife Tonja Kane Garcia, father Rick (Kehau) Garcia, mother Leona Workman (Damien Rapozo), paternal grandparents Herbert and Evelyn Garcia, maternal grandmother Imogene Richards, brother Evan (Jenna) Garcia, step brothers Kalani Kukahiko all of Kapa‘a, Kaeo Quinata of Honolulu, step sister Kaili Quinata of Las Vegas, nieces Kaycee Garcia, Kealalani Quinata, nephew Leialoha Kukahiko, mother-in-law Angel (Joshua Akau) Conant, father-in-law Hanalei Kane, numerous aunties, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of life for Preston will be on Sunday, Aug. 13, 2023, starting at 12 p.m. at Lydgate Park big pavilion.

Noelani Armine Smythe
Noelani Armine Smythe, 93, of Kapa‘a, passed away at home in her sleep on July 9, 2023. Born in Haiku, Maui, she was a retired nurses supervisor at Samuel Mahelona Hospital. She is a graduate of Mid Pacific High School on O‘ahu and Loma Linda School of Nursing in California.
She was preceded in death by her brother Edward Kalani Smythe formerly of Honolulu and her sister Juliette Kalama Chaikin formerly of Sherman Oaks, California.
She is survived by her nephews David Chaikin of Kona, Steven Chaikin of Molokai along with two great nieces and two great nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at her residence in Wailua Homesteads on Aug. 12, from 12:30 to 4 p.m.
Ernest Barreira
Ernest Barreira, of Kalaheo, passed away on July 22, 2023, at the age of 96, at Wilcox Medical Center. He was born on Jan. 21, 1927 in Numila, Kaua‘i. He was a retired automotive mechanic for McBryde Sugar Plantation and Garden Island Motors. He served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran.
He was preceded in death by father William Barreira, mother Rose Peters and sister Mary Cambra.
He is survived by wife Dolores Barreira, daughters Diane Generalao, Carolyn (Michael) Hutchins, Debra (Averiet) Soto, Ernette (Steven) Wagner, Corinne (Mike) Rosa, son Ernie (Annette) Barreira, 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Aug. 12, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kalaheo. Visitation begins at 8:30 a.m. and service at 10 a.m.

Felix Viernes Erorita Sr.
Felix Viernes Erorita Sr. passed away on June 13, 2023, in the Philippines at the age 70. He was born on Oct. 20, 1952, in the Philippines. He was a bus driver.
He was preceded in death by wife Nelia Erorita, parents Lijardo and Rosalia Erorita and son Felijar Erorita.
He is survived by sons Felix (Marygene) Erorita Jr., Neleo (Shallee) Erorita, Richjoy (Monica) Erorita, daughter Rose (Eddie) Motilla, sisters Remedios (Eduardo) Gudoy, Gloria Suniga, brothers Edison Erorita, Regoberto (Yolanda) Erorita, Ricarte Erorita, 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A service is Saturday, Aug. 12, at Aloha Church Kaua‘i in Lihu‘e. Visitation begins at 9 a.m., service at 10 a.m., and burial will follow at Kalapaki Bay Memorial at 12 p.m.

Annie Wahinekula (Apo) Lacro
Annie Wahinekula (Apo) Lacro, 74, of Waimea, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023 at the Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Waimea, Kaua‘i, on Dec. 28, 1948.
She was a retired cafeteria helper at Waimea High School and a member of the Wai‘aka Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was an avid Bible reader, loved to cook for family gatherings, enjoyed doing word search puzzles and watching cooking shows. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her precious grandchildren, and her beloved pet cuckatoo, Pearl.
Preceded in death by parents Samuel Apo Jr. and Katherine Makuaole Apo, brothers Bernard Makuaole Sr., Gary, Samuel, Alvin, Gilman, Darrell Apo and David Koani.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Julian Lacro of Waimea, daughters Myra (Adrian) Lacro Castaneda of Hilo, Jennifer (Frank) Lacro-Iwai and Maureen “Mahe” (Sam) Lacro Vegas of Kekaha, three grandchildren Kaena, Blake Micah and Häloa. The close knit bond of her siblings Kathy (Dennis) Eastman of California, Dal (Gordon) Tremaine of Oahu, Dani (Jim) Newman of Washington state, Sandra “Nani” (Henry) Silva of Hilo, Kaleo (Laverne) Apo of Oahu, Kaeo (Debbie) Apo of Hanapepe, Roy (Petra) Apo of Arizona, Clifford Apo of Waimea, Hartwell (Judy) Apo of Kalaheo and her aunt and mentor Grace Acain of Kekaha, sisters-in-law Margaret Lacro of Waimea, Esther Lacro of Kona, Diane Apo and Sandra Makuaole of Kekaha, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held at a later date.
Robert Noguchi
Robert Noguchi was born in Waialua, O‘ahu, on Feb. 1, 1941. He died on Aug. 1, 2023, at his home in Kapahi after a 10-month illness. He was retired from the Kaua‘i County Fire Department with the rank of Captain.
He was preceded in death by baby son Robert Jude Noguchi, parents Robert and Agnes Noguchi, sister-in-law Tane Noguchi and niece Mariah Noguchi Lim.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Anne Lizama Noguchi, sons Bob (Lesley) Noguchi, Vincent (Shanel) Noguchi, daughters Julie (Mike) Cruz, Anita (Joey) Durocher, brothers Donald (Sheila) Noguchi, Gary (Tane) Noguchi, nephew Remington Noguchi, grandchildren Isaac, Bobby, Luke and Caleb Noguchi, Naomi, Vincent Jr. and Isaiah Noguchi, Jude (Raquelle) Noguchi, Mikey and David Cruz, Joseph, Anthony, Julia and Andrew Durocher.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherine Church on Friday, Aug. 11, 2023. Viewing will begin at 9 a.m., services will begin at 10 a.m. and burial will follow at St. Catherine Kealia Cemetery.

Edimor ‘Eddie’ Tangonan Yago
Edimor “Eddie” Tangonan Yago, of Lihu‘e, passed away on July 16, 2023 at Wilcox Medical Center, at the age of 66. He was born in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on April 27, 1957. He was a landscaper and maintenance worker at Kaua‘i Nursery and Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course.
He was preceded in death by parents Antonino and Juliana Yago and brother Florante Yago.
He is survived by wife Olga Yago, sons Edgar (Michelle) Yago, Edmar (LeeAnna) Yago, daughters Kearsten (Henry) Jones, Edilynne Yago, grandchildren Christopher James “CJ” (Lynelle) Yago Martinez, Mark Anthony “MA” Yago Martinez, Xander Yago Martinez, Dominic Yago Jones, Carrie Joi Yago Jones, Elianna Jade Rapozo Yago, Peyton Rylee Rapozo Yago, great-grandchildren Christel Yago Martinez and Shantell Yago Martinez.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, Aug. 14, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lihu‘e. Visitation begins at 8:30 a.m. and Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m.

Esperanza ‘Ansang’ Tagatac
Esperanza “Ansang” Tagatac, 91, of Kekaha, passed away at home in Kahului, Maui, on July 28, 2023. She was born on April 23, 1932, in Bangui, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. She was a retired housekeeper and seamstress.
She was preceded in death by husband Francisco, parents Anotolio and Damiana Nacapuy, brothers Mariano, Felimon (Juliana) and Limbanio, and son Bernardo (Rosamond).
She is survived by sons Erwin (Melinda), Rolando (Lemelyn), daughter Esther (Brant), grandchildren Franklin (Jamy), Mark, Hazel (Todd), Charms, Zachary, Brittany, Courtney, Erin, Zane, great-grandchildren Taylor and Victoria.
Service is Monday, Aug. 21, 2023, at St. Theresa Catholic Church. Visitation is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., Eulogy at 9:30 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m., and burial will follow at 11 a.m. The family requests that flowers be omitted.
