Congratulations to Cherie Cabading, Yanny Jiang and all those hands on opening the doors to Kaua‘i Diner on Saturday. Edie Ignacio Neumiller was there with “the Neumiller in her name,” along with Naty Bali, who is a regular at the Lihu‘e United Church of Christ Labor Day Breakfast (are we having one this year?).

The pickleball players at Kalena Park (when do the seniors play, Skippa Caycayon?) are excited because grinds are within walking distance (and you don’t need to deal with that “talking streetlight” that doesn’t listen when you push the button).
Kudos to Jen Chahanovich and the Wilcox Medical Center ‘ohana (yes, even the 17 interns count, like Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami patting Bradley Pratt on the back during the Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce Mayor’s Luncheon). And, not only the interns and the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa John A. Burns School of Medicine medical students, mahalo to all the volunteers like the Lions clubs (no, Lion Gary “Mister P” Pacheco didn’t make it because he was selling flowers at a North Shore farmers market, and Janice Bond popped in because the East Kaua‘i Lions Club didn’t get the memo), the Scouts of America, Aloha Council, Angela Hoover of the Girl Scouts of Hawai‘i, Nannie Ann Apalla of Keiki to Career (weren’t they busy during the Back to School Bash?) and, yes, Tommy Noyes and the Bikes on Rice/Kaua‘i Path, American Medical Response (turning on those flashing red lights on the ambulance was a nice way to let people know the free bike drawing was imminent — they had three, or one every hour — to give away the 25 bikes!), and did you check out that fancy smartphone holder at AlohaCare (you missed out, Rachel Secretario).
Ah-h, back to the Koloa Plantation Days. How long did all you Eastsiders sit in that Friday traffic (Mayor Derek said good thing he left early)?
