NAWILIWILI — Six graduating high school seniors received scholarship awards on Saturday during an awards luncheon hosted by the Hokuala Scholarship Program at Timbers Kaua‘i Ocean Club & Residences.
“Everyone at Hokuala Kaua‘i extends our best wishes to these fine young men and women in pursuit of a higher education,” said Timbers Kaua‘i Ocean Club & Residences General Manager Chris Gampon.
“We would like to thank all of the students who applied for a scholarship, and congratulate those who were selected this year. We are proud to honor these remarkable young adults, and feel confident they will continue to excel in their academic endeavors,” Gampon said.
Each of the selected recipients — two each from Waimea and Kaua‘i high schools, one from Island School, and one from Kanuikapono Public Charter School — received $1,000.
The recipients are Waimea High School graduates Haweo Akeo, who will be enrolled in the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, and Maeani Arbilera, who will be heading to Weber State University.
Kaua‘i High School graduates are Kadee Parubrub, who is heading for the University of Arizona, and Kaimi Silva, who will be at the Oregon State University in the fall.
Skylar Steward is heading to Colorado State University after graduating from Island School. Lilinoe Naihe will be enrolled at Grand Canyon University in the fall after graduating from Kanuikapono Public Charter School.
This is the second year of the Hokuala Kaua‘i Scholarship Program, which was established for returning goodwill to the communities on Kaua‘i.
