Barbara Jean Ku‘ulani Leota
Barbara Jean Ku‘ulani Leota, 82, of Anahola, passed away on March 14, 2023, at her residence. She was born on April 5, 1940, on O‘ahu. She was a housekeeping manager at Pono Kai Resort.
She was preceded in death by parents Louis Mahelona Jr. and Rosella Mahelona, husband Peter Leota, son Peter Leota, brothers Ronald Mahelona, Stephen Mahelona, Alan Mahelona, John Mahelona and Charles Mahelona, sisters Gwendolyn Bargamento and Vivian Almeida, brothers-in-law Glenn Bargamento and Jerry Almeida and sisters-in-law Sue Mahelona and Karen Mahelona.
She is survived by sons John (Jan) Leota and Richard (Verna) Leota, daughter Lea (Steve) Myers, grandchildren Kainoa Leota, KT (Andrew) Leota-Khuong, Nicholas (Dana) Leota, Keoni (Anthony) Leota, Jantill Leota, Lealani Svobodova, William (Michelle) Soza and Natasha (Thomas) Leota-Shalawylo, hanai grandchildren Daniel Joao, Shawn Myers and Brandon Borrero, and numerous great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
A celebration of life and scattering of ashes with family and friends is at Anahola Beach Park (Pillars side) on Sunday, July 23, 2023, starting at 11 a.m.
Roy Stewart Honjo
Roy Stewart Honjo, of Honolulu, passed away on June 15, 2023 in Honolulu, at the age of 67. He was born on June 28, 1955 in Lihu‘e. He was a property manager and front of the house manager at the Maunalani Resort.
He was preceded in death by parents Walter and Magdalina Honjo.
He is survived by sons Ross Honjo of Honolulu and Jason Honjo of Honolulu, daughters Kimberlee (Joel) Mercado of San Francisco and Lora (Cody) Daniel of Honolulu, grandchildren Brayden and Joey Honjo and Conner Daniel, brothers Randall Honjo of Kalaheo and Roger (Melanie) Honjo of Las Vegas, sisters Renette (Gary) Gaspar of Honolulu, Allison (Drew Erickson) Honjo-Pettersson of Honolulu and Beverly (Don) Keogh of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service is Saturday, July 29, at the Kalaheo Missionary Church. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. and service to follow at 10 a.m. The family request casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Hilarion ‘John’ Martinez Luis Jr.
Hilarion “John” Martinez Luis Jr., 78, passed away on July 1, 2023. He was born in Dingras, Philippines on Jan. 3, 1945, and worked on Kaua‘i as a groundskeeper for Lihu‘e Airport.
He was preceded in passing by son Jaron Luis, parents Hilarion Sr. and Martina Luis and brother Felizardo Luis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years Elena Luis, daughter Jaylaneen (Joseph) Lyons, grandchildren Hudson, Hunter and Alina and sisters Maria Pillos and Irene Augustine.
A celebration of life is Monday, July 24, at Immaculate Conception Church in Lihu‘e. Visitation starts at 8:30 a.m., a funeral Mass is at 10 a.m., and burial will follow at Kalapaki Bay Memorial Park in Lihu‘e.

Joyce Faye Takemoto
Joyce Faye Takemoto, of Castro Valley, California, passed away on Jan. 9, 2023. She was born on Oct. 13, 1952 in St. Paul, Minnesota. She worked for the Alameda Housing Authority for over 32 years as well as a bartender at the Oakland Coliseum. On Kaua‘i she worked as an office manager at Shoreview Pharmacy during the day and nights at The Bull Shed restaurant as a bookkeeper and relief bartender.
She was preceded in death by parents Wally and Tsugime Takemoto and sister Lei Ann Takemoto.
She is survived by daughter Tinina “Titi” Takemoto (Kaili) Olores, grandchildren Mahina Olores and Waipuna Olores and brother Jack Takemoto.
A celebration of life is Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Hanapepe Recreation Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The family requests casual attire and respectfully requests that flowers be omitted.

Arthur K. Pia, 75, passed away on June 16, 2023, on O‘ahu. He was born on July 7, 1947 on Kaua‘i.
He was preceded in death by parents Miriam and John Pia, sisters Madeline K. (Benny) Raymond and Lily K. (Charles) Ki‘ilau and brothers Joseph K. (Sherry) Pia and George P. (Louise) Pia.
He is survived by sons Russell Pia and Arthur Pia Jr., daughter Ginny Pia, grandchildren Kaelani Pia and Ty Scribner, sister Ruby (Gary) Cummings, brothers John Pia and Hiram (Karen) Pia, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life is Saturday, July 22, at the Niumalu Canoe Club building at Kalapaki Beach starting at 10 a.m. The family requests casual attire.
Patrick ‘Pat’ Jerome Pavao
Patrick “Pat” Jerome Pavao, 81, passed away on June 15, 2023, on O‘ahu. He was born on Dec. 26, 1941, on Kaua‘i. He was in the U.S. Army and was retired from Kauai Coffee Co. He was a longtime baseball and senior softball player. He also coached youth soccer.
He was preceded in death by parents Rose and Philip Pavao, brother Philip Pavao and sister Frances Pavao Fu.
He is survived by wife Karen Pavao, son Layton (Chelsey) Pavao, grandsons Bradley and Thomas, sisters Dolores Soto and Patricia Kamakea, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life is Friday, July 28, at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m. with service to follow at 11 a.m.

Fusako Y. Harada, 102, passed away on July 15, 2023, in Lihu‘e. She was born in Kapa‘a on March 9, 1921, and retired from Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in passing by husband Katsuto Harada, daughter Patricia (Anselmo) Samson, parents Eitaro and Nejiu Yanagida, siblings Hiroshi Yanagida, Fumiko Lamar, Tamiko Saiki, Tetsuo “Blackie” Yanagida, Midori Tanaka, Toshie Pollett, James Yanagida and Shigeru Yanagida, and in-laws Sadataro and Toki Harada.
She is survived by children Harlan (Pamela, deceased) Harada, Katherine (Rudy, deceased) Campos and Susan (Dennis) Apilado, grandchildren Debra Yoshimoto, Coleen Rilling, Sheree Miller, Lauren Harada, Christopher Samson, Patrick Samson, Rudy Campos Jr., Brandon Campos, Erin Campos, Todd Apilado and Derek Apilado, 21 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
