What? We missed the 7-Eleven Slurpee special? Not to worry; McDonald’s is supposed to have their “limited time” cookies and creme pies (wonder how it compares with the all-time favorite apple pie) starting today. And don’t forget National Hot Dog Day coming up Aug. 5 (yikes, isn’t that when Heiva I Kaua‘i starts?).

Greg Askew, (he was at the last Bikes on Rice talking to Tommy Noyes about ‘Barbie Gears’) who is helping Tepairu Manea and the Heiva I Kaua‘i crew, said the 21st event will take place Aug. 5 and 6 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (special fire knife presentation by the Michael Drake ‘ohana starting at sundown on Aug. 5) at Kapa‘a Beach Park.
Mahalo, Danielle Rieuhl of Seattle, and all those hands (Melissa McFerrin-Warrack of Kukui Grove Center said every little bit helps “putting us over the top”) for helping to stuff nearly 3,000 backpacks with school supplies for Saturday’s Back to School Bash at the mall.
Wow! Chip Bahouth had a big crew of RumFire-geared helpers, who will be coming out on Saturday for the bash. Mahalo, Tommy Rita, for that Arizona tea fruit punch that hit the spot and was perfect for talking story with Greg Gonsalves, who was having his truck serviced.
OK, time to check out those Hawai‘i Foodservice Alliance Kaua‘i sweets at the Back to School Bash. And don’t forget Edwin Vea and The Beach House Craft Fair on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the lawn fronting the Kukui‘ula restaurant, with more than 40 vendors.
