“It takes a village” is a line used by Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami on issues relating to child care and raising young children. This is the “village” of more than 100 individuals who took time out on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, to help pack the backpacks with school supplies that will be distributed during the Back to School Bash at 9:30 a.m. at Kukui Grove Center in Lihu‘e on Saturday, July 15, 2023.

LIHU‘E — Myrvie Buster, of Garden Island Federal Credit Union, said Danielle Rieuhl is visiting from Seattle, and volunteered to help pack some of the nearly 3,000 backpacks of school supplies on Wednesday.
