LIHU‘E — With games scheduled for Saturday to end the Kaua‘i Senior Softball league for 2023, the Rookies, with its 21-1 standings record, repeat as champions for the 60s Division kupuna softball players.
The Rookies will round out its season when they meet up with Imi‘Ola starting at noon at the Pat Baniaga field adjacent to Hanapepe Stadium.
“The season ends on Saturday for the 60s folks,” said J.C. Crouch. “But the 70s teams will continue on through Aug. 18, with a break during the first week of August.”
During last Friday’s games, the Ahukini Wharf Rats, according to Crouch, put on a strong rally in the seventh inning, but came up short against Tsunami in a 16-14 loss.
Crouch said, “The undefeated Ele Makule had to go an extra inning before taking down Na Koa Kupuna by scoring 10 runs. Tremendous games!”
During the 60s Division that contested on Saturday, July 8, “the 60s folks took over and produced a number of exciting contests as well,” Crouch said. “The hard-hitting Bushwackas traded leads with Imi‘Ola before coming up short at the end, and the East Kaua‘i Legends took down a solid Hanama‘ulu Hillsiders club with a season-high 21 runs — outstanding effort from both teams, and the entire league.”
The 70s division contests take place on Friday at Isenberg Park with the first pitch starting at 9:30 a.m.
The 60s division games will take place at Isenberg Park and Pat Baniaga field adjacent to Hanapepe Stadium on Saturday. First pitch at both sites goes off at 9 a.m.
“Then, we’ll go to Maui and show those other islands what Kaua‘i Senior Softball is all about — tough, competitive teams who aren’t afraid to sit down after the game and enjoy each other’s company,” Crouch said.
