There’s still enough time to “Touch-a-Truck” today (9 a.m. to noon) when the Kaua‘i Police Department (mahalo, Assistant Chief Mark Ozaki, and Sgt. Bobby Thompson!) coordinates “trucks” and specialized vehicles from KPD, Kaua‘i Fire Department, Lihu‘e Airport Rescue and Fire, the Transportation Agency, Department of Public Works, American Medical Response and others to the Vidinha Stadium south parking lot (that’s the one closest to Kaua‘i Collision Center).

Everyone is welcome to visit for free for a close-up look at these vehicles that are normally seen in action when they respond to situations. Families can talk to the different operators and get a better idea of what their work involves … what a great community policing event!
And don’t forget … Maluhia Road (that’s the Tree Tunnel road) is closed today from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the annual community cleanup that signals the start of Koloa Plantation Days … please plan accordingly for the detour alternatives.
Congratulations to Waimea High School graduate Ryder Owen on being announced by the Committee on the Status of Women as the first place winner of the 2023 Women’s History Essay contest … we just need to wait on the committee to find out the second, third, and honorable mention winners that earned cash prizes for their submissions.
