PUHI — Island School announced that Nancy Nagramada will be head of school. She assumed the role on July 1.
Island School was fortunate to have Vince Durnan as the interim head of school during the 2022-23 academic year, the announcement said. During Durnan’s year of leadership, Island School experienced both academic and athletic success.
Island School’s graduating class of 2023 received 1,237 acceptance letters from 77 schools across the country, and their alumni have declared a variety of majors, ranging from nursing, biology and mechanical engineering to film, graphic design and architecture.
Voyagers achieved athletic awards as well, including eight Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation team titles, ranging from boys tennis and girls swimming, as well as two individual champions and 36 KIF All-Stars.
Island School is excited to continue this success under the leadership of Nagramada, the announcement said.
Nagramada has an accomplished academic career as an administrator, educator and teacher. She brings to Island School more than 25 years of experience in a variety of educational settings on both the East Coast and West Coast.
She previously served as the assistant head of school and head of middle school at The San Francisco School in San Francisco.
As the Voyagers head into the 2023-24 school year, Island School will serve nearly 500 students from across the island in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. It’s the school’s largest student body in its 46-year history.
