Patrick T. ‘Paddy Boy’ Malama
King of the Na Pali Coast
Patrick T. “Paddy Boy” Malama passed away on Feb. 12, 2020 at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waimea. He was born on March 30, 1944, in Waimea, and was a longtime cable installer for Derby Cablevision and Kaua‘i Cable.
He was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Lucille Ku Malama, sisters Elaine Parker, Blubelle Kaowili, Barbara Westerdale, Kapio Ilae and Alma Nerez, brothers Joseph Malama Jr., Llwellyn Malama Sr. and Vernon Malama and grandson Cyrus Malama Caveiro. He was followed in death by sister Abigail Estacio of Hanama‘ulu.
He is survived by wife Pinky Ruth Momilani Leoiki Malama, sons Patrick “Kanani” (Tammy Takamura) Malama of Waimea and Jaime (Alisa) Malama of Kekaha, daughters Roberta “Pua” (Chucky) Remata of Kekaha, Raenette (Alton) Lopez of Kekaha, Jackie (Preston) Lee of Kekaha, Lolly (Mel) Malama of Kekaha and Desiree “Desi” (Daniel) Kittredge of Waimea, grandchildren Pomai (Jeff), Kailan, Jaecie (Javin), Anu (Kassie), Brandee (Sheldon), Byrlynn (Shane), Nakoa (Kai-lee), Taryn (John), Tisha (Justin), Tylan, Tyran (Jocelynn), Kaelin (Ivy), Leann (Chase), Jessica (Tyler), Geon, Reese and Anais, great-grandchildren Mikaylah-Jade, Kieran Sage, Baelee-Rose, Meliyah Grace, Khelton James, Nevaeh, Kingsley, Camron, Michael, Kainalu, Kamaehu, Kaliko, Ezra, Qhaysen, Qhaiyah, Taelynn, Taevanna, Kaio and Kauluwehi, hanai sons Kahalau Leoiki, John (Jodie) Kona and Burt Shimabukuro, hanai great-grandchildren Tiare and Te Moana Ruiz, Kawahine, Kahia‘ai and Arte Boy Palama, and brothers Billy (Leona) Malama and Edmund Malama.
His long-awaited celebration of life is July 15, at Kekaha Harbor House, starting at 2 p.m.
Romana Tambaoan Calderon
Romana Tambaoan Calderon, 88, of Hanama‘ulu, passed away on April 27, 2023, at Garden Isle Health Care. She was born on Feb. 28, 1935, in Mapandan, Pangasinan, Philippines. She retired from Wilcox Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by husband Marcos Aban Calderon Sr., father Felomino Tambaoan, mother Brigida Fernandez Tambaoan, brother Adolfo Tambaoan, and sisters Milagros So, Demetria Cruz, Rosalina Gutierrez, Diomeda Soriano and Herminia Bernardo.
She is survived by children Marie (Bobby) Lee of Lihu‘e, Linda (Nathan) Konishi of Lawa‘i, Marc (Kenani) Calderon of Lihu‘e and Jacob (Rowena) Calderon of Tarlac, Philippines, sister Gloria (Rolando) Lalas of Mapandan, Philippines, sister-in-law Emma Tambaoan of Carson, California, grandchildren Tanner Lee, Kalen and Kyler Konishi, Kawai, Nahe, Maka and Kekai Calderon, Jarren, Jacea and Jannah Calderon, hanai children Bernard (Kristin) Soriano, Carmela (Royden) Pablo and Peter (Marita) Soriano, hanai grandchildren Morgan and Kendall Soriano, Cierra (Bubby) Saiki and Brittnee Pablo and Kylen, Crista and Maiah Soriano.
A celebration of life is Saturday July 8, at Immaculate Conception Church. Visitation begins at 8 a.m., eulogy at 9:45 a.m. and Mass at 10 a.m. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.

Roy Stewart Honjo
Roy Stewart Honjo of Honolulu passed away on June 15, 2023 in Honolulu, at the age of 67. He was born on June 28, 1955 in Lihu‘e. He was a property manager and front of the house manager at the Maunalani Resort.
He was preceded in death by parents Walter and Magdalina Honjo.
He is survived by sons Ross Honjo of Honolulu and Jason Honjo of Honolulu, daughters Kimberlee (Joel) Honjo-Mercado of San Francisco and Lora (Cody) Daniel of Honolulu, three grandchildren, brothers Randall Honjo of Kalaheo and Roger (Melanie) Honjo of Las Vegas, sisters Renette (Gary) Gaspar of Honolulu, Allison (Drew Erickson) Honjo-Pettersson of Honolulu and Beverly (Don) Keough of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service is Saturday, July 29, at the Kalaheo Missionary Church. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. and service to follow at 10 a.m. The family request casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Margaret ‘Margie’ Ann Leina‘ala Ruiz
Margaret “Margie” Ann Leina’ala Ruiz, of Rocklin, California, passed away on Jan. 11, 2023, at Sutter Roseville Medical Center at the age of 58. She was born on Oct. 9, 1964, in Maui. She was a baker with Safeway.
She was preceded in death by grandparents Damascio Sr. and Margaret “Maggie” Ruiz.
She is survived by mother Emily “Millie” Ruiz, hanai sister Leyona (Robert) Croisant of Lincoln, California, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service is at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Koloa on Saturday, Sept. 23. Visitation is from 9 to 10 a.m. with Mass at 10 a.m. The family requests casual attire and welcomes flowers.

Emily “Millie” Peggy Ruiz, of Koloa, passed away on June 12, 2023 at Wilcox Medical Center at the age of 85. She was born on March 10, 1938 in Waimea.
She was preceded in death by parents Damascio Sr. and Margaret “Maggie” Ruiz, daughter Margaret “Margie” Ruiz, brother Damascio Ruiz Jr., sisters Rose Medeiros and Shirley Cambra and in-laws Herbert Cambra, Edith Ruiz and John Vegas.
She is survived by caregivers Laurie Ann Ruiz and Raynette Chun, hanai daughter Leyona (Robert) Croisant of Lincoln, California, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, brother Donald Ruiz of Phoenix, sister Mary Jane Vegas of Kailua, O‘ahu, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
