John Ventura Medeiros Jr.
John Ventura Medeiros Jr., 85, passed away at Wilcox Medical Center in Lihu‘e, on Jan. 7, 2023. He was born in Waimea, on July 2, 1937. He retired as a carpenter from Fletcher Pacific and Kenneth Shioi Construction, and spent his later years as a woodworker supporting the Kaua‘i community, and taught night classes and basic carpentry at Kaua‘i Community College.
He was preceded in passing by wife Shirley “Loling” Fuertes Medeiros, parents John Sr. and Mary Medeiros, siblings Leonard Wayne Medeiros and Gwendolyn Carveiro.
He is survived by children John A. (Kimberley) Medeiros, Mark A. (Cheryl Polikapu-Medeiros) Medeiros, Paul A. Medeiros, Jeannine Medeiros, Joannell (Wayne) Lemi, grandchildren John M.T. Medeiros, Jason A.Y. Medeiros, Chyler P. Medeiros, Marxon Medeiros, Brian K.K. Medeiros, Rachel K.K. Medeiros, Natasha Lemi, Rosie (Kaven) Walag, Lorie Lemi, great-grandchildren Sofina Medeiros, Sampson K. Emayo, Zaven Walag, Kaiven Walag, Raizen Walag, Sarah Singh, Juanito Singh, sisters Carol Deponte and Kathleen (George) Langtad.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 8, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo. Visitation starting at 8:30 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m., and reception to follow.

Derek Akira Wasano
Derek Akira Wasano, of Lihu‘e, passed away on May 27, 2023 in Lihu‘e. He was born on Aug. 17, 1971 in Lihu‘e. He was a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by father Dennis Isao Wasano.
He is survived by son Dylan Wasano of Puhi, mother Mary Wasano of California, brother Gregg (Julie) Zieman of Massachusetts, sisters Melissa Wasano of Kapa‘a, Marnie Wasano of California, nephews Isaiah Tomacder of California, Lawakua Brown of Kapa‘a, nieces Zia and Zoe Zieman of Massachusetts, girlfriend Leiko Shimazu, numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
A service is Saturday, Aug. 5, at Garden Island Mortuary in Lawa‘i. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. and a celebration of life to follow at 10 a.m.
Derek’s ashes will be united with his father and grandparents at a later date. Following the service, there will be a convoy. Everyone is welcome to join. The family suggests casual attire and requests no flowers.

John H. ‘Keoni’ Cummings III
John H. “Keoni” Cummings III, of Kapa‘a, passed away on June 16, 2023, at Wilcox Medical Center at the age of 46. He was born on Feb. 24, 1977, in Waimea. He was a self-employed business owner of WLPM LLC.
He was preceded in death by grandfathers Bonifacio Lopez, John H. Cummings Sr., grandmother Barbara Cummings and father Walter Silva.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years Tami Kehaunani Cummings, sons Kaimana (Jalissa) Cummings of Wailua, Kainalu (Michelle) Cummings of Wailua, hanai son Kekai Kaaumoana Cummings of Pakala, daughters Wailana Medeiros-Cummings (Bruce Kanoho) of Lawai, Kamaleimakamae Cummings (Jake Kiilau) of Wailua, hanai daughter Ara Medeiros of Lihu‘e, granddaughter Namaka‘okaha‘i Kanoho, grandson Raiden Nakoa‘emaikalanimalie Medeiros-Pang, Geri the cat, father John H. A service will be held on Saturday, July 8, at the Wailua Meat Company, 887 F Kamalu Road, Kapa‘a. Visitation is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. A celebration of life will follow at 11:30 a.m.

Patrick ‘Paddy Boy’ Malama
King of the Na Pali Coast
Patrick “Paddy Boy” Malama passed away on Feb. 12, 2020 at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waimea. He was born on March 30, 1944, in Waimea and was a long time cable installer for Derby Cablevision and Kaua‘i Cable.
He was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Lucille Ku Malama, sisters Elaine Parker, Blubelle Kaowili, Barbara Westerdale, Kapio Ilae, Alma Nerez, brothers Joseph Malama Jr., Llwellyn Malama Sr., Vernon Malama and grandson Cyrus Malama Caveiro. He was followed in death by sister Abigail Estacio of Hanama‘ulu.

Nicholas Fred Moore
Nicholas Fred Moore passed peacefully in his sleep on June 3, 2023. He was born Feb 10, 1953, at Camp Pendleton, California, and moved to Hawai‘i in 1968 with his father, step-mother and sisters shortly after his father, Robert returned from serving in the Vietnam war.
After graduating from the University of Hawai‘i, Nick began a career as a paramedic. After a short stint working the ambulance in Honolulu, he moved to the Island of Kaua‘i where he continued his career as an Advanced Life Paramedic (MICT) until he retired after 40 years. Nick always had a story to tell of the people he met, the lives saved and sadly those lost over his career. Each and every patient he attended held a place in his heart, as did his friends and family. If you ever had a need for an ambulance, chances are good that Nick was there to help you through it or hold a hand at life’s end.
Nick found his special utopia in the little town of Kilauea. He diligently built his house with just a bit of help, stick by stick and brick by brick and could tell you about every bracket and footing to those who would listen. He swore that no hurricane could take that house down.
Nick was passionate about nature and the beauty of Hawai‘i. The ocean was his church and music, his sermon. He spent his time working in the yard, hiking, surfing mountain biking, kite surfing and spinning fire with Poi. He also enjoyed working on all types of engines or electronics, tuning and tinkering, always curious of how and why things worked.
He was preceded in death by his mother Alice M Moore, father Robert B Moore, and stepmother Patricia R Moore. He is survived by his sisters Patrice (and Brian) Prater and Marci (and John) Forgrave, as well as 2 nieces and 2 nephews.
Nick was bigger than life and lived that life exactly how he wanted to. He will be dearly missed.
Barbara Jane Romsdal
Barbara Jane Romsdal, 97, passed away on June 18, 2023, at Garden Isle Health Care. She was born on May 25, 1926, in Greeley, Colorado and was an interior design college professor at the Colorado State University. She lived 27 wonderful years on Kaua‘i and is so blessed and grateful.
She was preceded in death by husband Dale Romsdal, sister Mary Fran Reynolds and son-in-law Danny Liebovitz.
Barbara is survived by daughters Dana Romsdal, Kirsten Romsdal, niece Debbie Fraiser, many hanai nieces and nephews.
She was an extraordinary inspiration to so many lives.
Services will be held at a later date.
