Kudos to the Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce on the first Business Before Hours event since 2015 at Kumu’s Cupboard in Kukui Marketplace, just a few doors down from Otsuka’s. Kumu’s Cupboard, the Kaua‘i educators’ resource center, is getting ready for Back to School (Teachers’ first day is Aug. 1, according to the Department of Education school calendar), and Beth Amaro took advantage of the gathering to announce Lori Almarza as Kaua‘i United Way’s Executive Director.

“I don’t know how to act,” Lori, who has been the acting director for three years said. “I just do.”
Mahalo to Taylor Shigemoto and the Hawai‘iUSA Federal Credit Union (they also had a bunch of internal promotions!) for sponsoring the event where people could find out more about Kumu’s Cupboard (Elyse Litvack, one of the Kumu’s Cupboard co-founders, was busy talking about the bridge between educators and the community) while enjoying a breakfast bento from Lawai‘a Fish Company and Kaua‘i Coffee.
Melissa McFerrin Warrack (National Hot Dog Day is coming up, Aug. 5) announced this year’s Back to School Bash on July 15. Don’t forget to preregister for one of the 2,700 backpacks of school supplies … preregistration opens at 9 a.m., July 6 at www.kukuigrovecenter.com.
Late breaking, the Keala Foundation announces a Kekaha Family Fun Run 5K run/walk on July 4 starting at 7:30 a.m … gotta go find an event poster for the QR code that allows one to register for the event that precedes the Kekaha Family Fun Day that starts at 10 a.m. at Kekaha Neighborhood Center.
The QR code on the Friday issue of TGI also made it easy to get tickets for the Kaua‘i Hospice Concert in the Sky that takes place on July 4, when gates at the Vidinha Stadium soccer fields open at 3:30 p.m.
