Congratulations to Lance Segawa and the team at the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital on being announced a Top 20 Critical Access hospital! The cake and manapua celebration came a day following the SMMH Day at the Beach with the Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital residents at Lydgate Park. Kudos to all the helpers and volunteers who lent a hand so the residents could reap the benefits of spending a day outdoors!

Kudos, too Kaua‘i Beach Resort, for partnering with the Kaua‘i Humane Society on the third Yappy Hour adoption event that takes place on the last Wednesday of the month (yikes, Saturday is July 1 already!). Miami Vice was able to find a new home in Irvine, California (mom said the name’s gotta change). A KHS volunteer said during last month’s Yappy Hour, they found a home for a dog in Kapa‘a. They still need to find more homes to get out of this capacity crisis. More adoption options continue through the end of July.
OK, stay safe. The Fourth of July weekend is already here. The Freedom Fest at the U.S. Navy Pacific Missile Range Facility at Barking Sands is Saturday, and the Kaua‘i Hospice Concert in the Sky on Tuesday at the Vidinha Stadium soccer fields in Lihu‘e (get your tickets online — it’s a lot easier than in previous years when you had to visit the Big Save stores).
And, don’t forget the free performances by the U.S. Air Force Band, on Wednesday at the Princeville Makai Golf Couse from 3 p.m., and Thursday at the Kaua‘i Veterans Center in Lihu‘e from 5:30 p.m.
