LIHU‘E — The County of Kaua‘i Fire Department issued an advisory on Tuesday reminding folks about the use of firecrackers and fireworks on the Fourth of July.
Fireworks and firecrackers can only be ignited on private property between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. on July 4.
“Setting off fireworks on public property, such as streets, sidewalks or parks, is illegal,” said KFD Fire Prevention Bureau Capt. Justin Ka‘eo Kinoshita. “Under no circumstances should the powder or pyrotechnic contents of any firework be removed. It is strictly prohibited.”
Also prohibited are all aerial luminaries, more commonly known as flying lanterns or flying luminaries, as per state law. No permits will be issued for the holiday because there are no firecracker vendors.
Cylindrical cones or fountains, snakes, sparklers, toy smoke devices, wheels and ground spinners, whistles and similar products are permitted even though all are classified as fireworks.
