LIHU‘E — In observance of National Adoption Weekend, which runs from June 30 through July 2, the Kaua‘i Humane Society and Kaua‘i Beach Resort are presenting Yappy Hour on Wednesday.
The event takes place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Kaua‘i Beach Resort near Hanama‘ulu.
“We’ll have more adoptable dogs, and maybe puppies,” said Caitlin Fowlkes of the Kaua‘i Humane Society. “There will be merchandise for sale, discounted drinks at the recently acquired Outrigger Kaua‘i Beach Resort bar, live music, and local vendors offering their merchandise.”
“Our shelter is at 256 percent capacity,” Fowlkes said. “Consider adoption. We have lots of amazing pets all looking for families — from puppies and kittens to unique dogs and cats. They’re all free during the National Adoption Weekend that is through the support of Best Friends Animal Society.”
The adoption campaign continues from July 6 through 31 and is sponsored by the Bissell Pet Foundation and Cathy Bissel. During this period — Kaua‘i Humane Society is closed on July 4 — all pets will be $25, and all senior pets, those over 7 years old, will be free to adopt.
Additionally, the Kaua‘i Humane Society has no space for the lots of animals that are anticipated to get lost because of the July 4 fireworks.
“July 5 is our highest intake day each year,” Fowlkes said. “We do not have the space. Please make sure your pets are safe, and your chip information is updated.”
